Episode 366 – Strange Switch to Savage Worlds

(0:24) Karen is back and we start Geek out on the Nintendo Switch and all the goodiness that brings to the table. Just how does the Switch work and can it cross-platform? We also talk Playstation 5 and Xbox Series S and X.

(11:43) It has been a few months now since SeanGeek set up a game set in his world and using the Savage Worlds Tabletop RPG system. Karen is one of the players. We talk tabletop, different systems, current campaign, scheduling as adults, remote playing using cameras and dive into the Rolemaster system.

(19:15) SeanGeek is deep into the Grishaverse and talks the trilogy, the duology and that TV show on Netflix. We also discuss other books and adaptations such as His Dark Materials, The Golden Compass (better than Harry Potter?), and The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. (23:28) SeanGeek has shown ET the Extra-Terrestrial to his kids. How did this movie invent a whole subgenre of movie.

(26:12) A new spot on the show is Recommendations. This week we talk about all that is good on the podcast Verbal Diorama.

(29:58) We deep dive into the Dr Strange 2 trailer. We provide our reactions and speculations: Marvel Studios storytelling and evolution; public expectations; Patrick Stewart (???): a new Wolverine. (40:18)

Just what is the Illuminati and might it make an appearance in the film? Will the film be too dense for the common viewer? Captain Carter? Iron Man? Ultron?

(48:40) Yet another iteration of The Batman is happening with Robert Pattinson playing the titular hero this time out. We discuss Twilight and the luggage that might bring to this movie, unreal expectations because of it, Kristen Stewart. We talk of new Vampire mythology that comes every generation and how Twilight’s timing worked after the last vampire ramp up after Anne Rice’s Interview With The Vampire. Was Hunger Games the next type that came after Battle Royal?

Hi, I am Sean "SeanGeek" McGinity. And I am a geek. For me, the definition of the word geek comes from liking something so much, that I deep dive into it. Not just consuming it... but becoming it. I "geek out". Everything started with comics. I read them and studied them with a fine eye, and then started making my own. Since then, I have "geeked out" on movies (Star Wars The Evil WIthin, Hurt), music writing, recording, and performing (The Classic Embers and Dome), writing (the Symka comic and the upcoming Intuitives novel), and now... this Podcast.

Hey guys, SeanGeek here. Just to be clear, this is me geeking out on Todd "FastFretFingers" McGinity here. Todd is the GOAT. My brother is an established musician, mastering the Fretboard with a blistering discipline. If there was a guitar style, tone, pitch... Todd would find a way to replicate it. From his early days mastering Van Halen and Rush, his musical palate has expanded with forays into classical and flamenco, hard rock, blues and pop. From live performances to learning the recording process, when it comes to music, he has done it all.

Karen Bee
