Episode 408 – Let It Joe, Let It Joe, Vai Never Bothered Me Anyway

This week we discuss Sean’s experience at Disney On Ice and how it compares to Joe Satriani and Steve Vai (15:09). Todd’s mixes up Little Mermaid with Aquaman, how Beauty and The Beast created a zeitgeist, Olaf is the Beatles to kids, comparing Let it Go to Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing, Idina Menzel’s voice is as great Joe Satriani guitar skills, Kristen Bell is a dynamo, Gaston is a dangerous character, and did the pandemic help Disney.

We discuss buildings being named after advertisers (53:14). When the Winnipeg Jets came back to Winnipeg as an NHL team, the building they played in was called the MTS Centre. Now, years later, it is called the Canada Life Centre. We discuss the confusion of buildings being renamed over and over and whether people actually use the building’s new name. Advertising is stuck in everything, digitized on television by region, and paying bills. Should advertising be used when a customer has already paid full price for an event, a show, or a movie? Why are we bombarded by ads, and shouldn’t we be excluded if we paid full price for an event, concert or movie? Is there a danger in all of these ads and should they be regulated?

Hi, I am Sean "SeanGeek" McGinity. And I am a geek. For me, the definition of the word geek comes from liking something so much, that I deep dive into it. Not just consuming it... but becoming it. I "geek out". Everything started with comics. I read them and studied them with a fine eye, and then started making my own. Since then, I have "geeked out" on movies (Star Wars The Evil WIthin, Hurt), music writing, recording, and performing (The Classic Embers and Dome), writing (the Symka comic and the upcoming Intuitives novel), and now... this Podcast.

Todd McGinity

Hey guys, SeanGeek here. Just to be clear, this is me geeking out on Todd "FastFretFingers" McGinity here. Todd is the GOAT. My brother is an established musician, mastering the Fretboard with a blistering discipline. If there was a guitar style, tone, pitch... Todd would find a way to replicate it. From his early days mastering Van Halen and Rush, his musical palate has expanded with forays into classical and flamenco, hard rock, blues and pop. From live performances to learning the recording process, when it comes to music, he has done it all.

A lover of stories, beer, and cats, and a master of none. Catch me talking to Geek Boy every so often for the latest comic book TV show or movie, Star Wars, board games and other things cool. Hear me give my two cents, relate them to other things I know, and make other recommendations!
