Listen to the Sean.
Speaker B:Sean and Geek.
Speaker B:Sean, Geek and Crash podcast.
Speaker B:Yeah, you got it, folks.
Speaker B:It's me again with a little aptitude for all you out here in white bread land.
Speaker B:Let's see, we're on 92fm and it feels like a nice, clean little band so far.
Speaker B:No one else is using it.
Speaker B:The price is right.
Speaker B:Don't you find you Crusty Dave?
Speaker B:This is bigger than friendship.
Speaker B:This is what you call cousin.
Speaker B:And the Buddhist is called, let me see.
Speaker B:Reincarnation.
Speaker A:Musi Mushi.
Speaker B:Hey, wait a minute.
Speaker B:Since when is Pismo beach inside a cave, I wonder.
Speaker B:You know, I just think we should have turned left at Albuquerque and then maybe a right turn at La Jola.
Speaker C:Hmm?
Speaker A:Shush.
Speaker A:Hush, please.
Speaker D:Are we talking about how much Anne Marie sucks?
Speaker D:We haven't done that yet.
Speaker B:No, we haven't covered that yet.
Speaker B:Okay, she sucks hands.
Speaker C:A pass or go, Anne Marie.
Speaker D:I gotta apologize in advance, Sean, because I had to mention Anne Marie on a podcast that hasn't dropped yet, but me and Scott Haskett are doing a WKRP rewatch podcast called as God Is My Witness.
Speaker D:And one of the segments on the show is, we revisit what the number one song in the nation was when the show aired.
Speaker D:And we just did episode seven, the Thanksgiving turkey episode.
Speaker D:And the number one song in America was you Needed Me by Anne Marie.
Speaker C:She had a number one in the.
Speaker B:U.S. oh, yeah, she did several.
Speaker C:Really?
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker D:Can you believe it?
Speaker B:It's unbelievable.
Speaker B:She.
Speaker B:She's the first crossover.
Speaker B:She was.
Speaker B:Wait, She a first crossover?
Speaker B:Canadian, Right?
Speaker B:It was Guess who after her.
Speaker B:Right?
Speaker C:She's just boring.
Speaker D:That's true.
Speaker E:Yeah.
Speaker C:Just like, why am I listening to this?
Speaker B:I would rather hear mom sing House of the Rising sun with all the fucking grit and balls that she had.
Speaker B:She would just pull it, like, from her toes, like an end.
Speaker D:We need your mom on the phone.
Speaker D:Can she sing that for us?
Speaker B:Because we should.
Speaker B:I think.
Speaker B:I think Mom's hammered by now, isn't she?
Speaker D:She got a Tuesday.
Speaker B:Well, no, our cousin came in, and when the two of them get together, it's entertaining as hell.
Speaker C:Well, I just read a report that 8% of all deaths in Quebec last year were from assisted dying.
Speaker C:So I'm wondering if Anne Murray's moved to Montreal or something.
Speaker B:I would explain a lot.
Speaker D:I would explain a lot.
Speaker C:Has anyone correlated that?
Speaker C:I don't know.
Speaker B:That's great.
Speaker B:Okay, wait.
Speaker D:All right, let's move on.
Speaker B:We're supposed to go back to the.
Speaker D:One thing I wanted to bring up,.
Speaker B:And I think Kevin and I, maybe we talked about.
Speaker B:I wanted to bring up like the whole Milli Vanilli thing, right?
Speaker B:Because the Milli Vanilli thing back in the day for backing Drax, I mean, it was the most egregious, like worst, because.
Speaker B:And here's the bit of information a lot of people don't know, but the guy behind Milli Vanilli was also the guy behind Boney.
Speaker B:Mr.
Speaker B:But in that case, they let the singers sing in bony m. So it's the same guy.
Speaker B:And he's the guy who said, look, you guys are ugly as fuck.
Speaker B:We're not gonna put your faces on the album, we're not gonna get you to tour, but you guys sound good.
Speaker B:So it was Frank Farian's plan to bring two good looking guys and have them lip sync everything and pay them a lot of money to not say anything.
Speaker B:But the only bad guy that came out of this was Millie and Vanilli or whatever.
Speaker B:Robin Fab or whatever they're called.
Speaker B:Why was Frank Farian the mastermind behind all this?
Speaker B:Like, why didn't he get more heat?
Speaker B:Boney, I'm still making tons of money and it's all him making the money.
Speaker B:Like he's the mastermind behind it all.
Speaker B:He's the Machiavellian whatever guy.
Speaker E:Maybe he's not the Face though.
Speaker E:No one knows his name.
Speaker E:Yeah, I'd never heard of his name until you said it.
Speaker E:Mindy Vanilli is them to.
Speaker E:They're in the videos.
Speaker E:They're the ones singing.
Speaker E:They're the ones who got in trouble.
Speaker B:When they threatened to go public.
Speaker B:Frank Ferrian forced them not to.
Speaker B:He said, no, you're gonna be in breach of contract.
Speaker B:We signed a contract.
Speaker B:They, after a while it's like, well, we should.
Speaker B:This is wrong, we can't do this.
Speaker B:And he said, nope, you're under contract.
Speaker B:So even though they wanted to, and they said, look, on the second album, we'll sing ourselves now.
Speaker B:Which they did.
Speaker B:And the guy who's still alive, he puts out music today.
Speaker B:Even today, right?
Speaker B:So the thing is, if Milli Vanilla had come out now.
Speaker B:Wow, Don is really enjoying.
Speaker D:Someone's having a party.
Speaker E:Yeah, well, you can hear that, can you?
Speaker D:She had the boyfriend over because Todd's in the basement podcasting.
Speaker D:Don't worry, he'll be down there for hours.
Speaker B:So if they came out now.
Speaker B:So back then it's like, look, you guys can't fucking sing to save your lives, right?
Speaker B:So they're like, okay, you know what?
Speaker B:We get someone else Singing.
Speaker B:If it had been approached differently, they said, look, we need two looking guys.
Speaker B:We had Boney M, three hot people, Disco Arrow.
Speaker B:Boney M goes bonkers.
Speaker B:The three really attractive people, right?
Speaker B:The two ladies and the guy.
Speaker B:Three very attractive people.
Speaker B:Appeal to the disco crowd, appeal to the straight crowd, appeal to the, you know, to the, to the gay crowd.
Speaker B:They appealed to everyone.
Speaker B:It was a perfect fit and they could sing perfect.
Speaker B:I want to do something else.
Speaker B:What are we going to do?
Speaker B:He writes, you know, he puts the music together, puts the album out, puts everything together and goes, I can't sell this.
Speaker B:The image is not there.
Speaker B:So he hires the two guys, puts Milli Vanilli together.
Speaker B:But do you think now, if it was done now, he would have brought the good looking people in first, used auto tune?
Speaker B:There's a million things in studio.
Speaker B:Like half the singers nowadays don't need to hold the tune.
Speaker B:Do you think if he'd done it that way and they came out and they're playing the backing tracks a la Dua Lipa and everyone else, do you think it would have gone down in a different way?
Speaker D:Well, what was the.
Speaker C:So what's the background?
Speaker C:So he had this, the original slot.
Speaker C:The actual singers, were they actually a touring act or did he.
Speaker B:Did he put together.
Speaker C:Did he make minimalism?
Speaker B:They were studio people that they.
Speaker C:Okay, so basically, right, so he just.
Speaker C:He wanted two voices for this latest quote unquote project.
Speaker C:Right.
Speaker C:My guess is he probably never intended on.
Speaker C:He just wanted the two best voices and the two best looking people.
Speaker C:Let's see if we can sell this and makes it.
Speaker C:Let's see if we can make it work would be my guess.
Speaker B:He made a fortune off Bony M. So he was trying to.
Speaker B:Okay, what am I going to do now?
Speaker C:Fortune off Milli Vanilli.
Speaker C:They were big, right?
Speaker C:I mean, yeah.
Speaker E:So when the tour started, was it just a matter of putting the backing tracks in when they're playing live in a.
Speaker E:In an arena?
Speaker E:Yeah, it was all back and everyone, everyone knew about it except for the audience, obviously.
Speaker D:I remember I watched a documentary on Milli Vinili and there was one time where the guy either triggered the wrong song or the song skipped or something and they had to try and cover it up in the performance.
Speaker D:Like that happens all the time when you're, when you're miming, when you're Jon Bon Jovi, you're trying to pass it off.
Speaker D:Or when you're Vince Neil and you forget to sing but the vocals happening like, yeah, this is why we just came out and said, hey, guess what I'm miming to.
Speaker D:You know, spend your money wisely.
Speaker D:The people will go, okay.
Speaker D:If it really bugged you, you wouldn't go.
Speaker D:If you didn't care, you'd probably still go.
Speaker D:Nowadays, doesn't matter.
Speaker B:Like, the matter.
Speaker D:Yeah.
Speaker B:Jessica Simpson.
Speaker B:Same thing.
Speaker B:She.
Speaker B:She lip synced when she was on, what, Saturday Night Live.
Speaker D:Or I think that was her sister.
Speaker D:Not Jessica was the other one.
Speaker D:Ashley.
Speaker B:Ashley.
Speaker B:And the.
Speaker B:The tracks didn't line up, and then she just started doing a hoedown.
Speaker D:Yeah.
Speaker D:Stage.
Speaker E:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker B:And then she was like, forever back.
Speaker E:I'm out of here.
Speaker B:Saturday Night Live.
Speaker B:Because you have to play live on Saturday Live.
Speaker B:So, like, do you think Millie Vanilli now, do you think the approach would have been different?
Speaker B:And do you think people would have give, like, even cared?
Speaker C:Well, I mean, the tolerance has changed because, I mean, if you've got AI stuff hitting the charts now, right?
Speaker C:And that's going to.
Speaker C:It's going to keep happening until someone regulates that.
Speaker C:But.
Speaker C:So in a Tik Tok generation, does anyone actually really care who the artist even is?
Speaker C:In some cases, if it's just, I.
Speaker D:Don't know, not even listening to the full song.
Speaker D:Right.
Speaker D:They're listening to their 32nd Tik Tok and then moving on.
Speaker B:There she goes, you know.
Speaker C:Oh, good song.
Speaker D:That's not Milli Vanilli.
Speaker D:That's a different.
Speaker D:That was from.
Speaker D:So I Married an Axe Murder.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker B:I love that movie.
Speaker C:The Laws.
Speaker C:I think it is, isn't it?
Speaker B:I'm not really.
Speaker B:I can't remember now.
Speaker C:Yeah, the Laws.
Speaker B:So I, I just, I. I just think it's interesting because those, they were hated so bad that, you know, the one guy killed himself was like, I can't go anywhere without, like.
Speaker C:Oh, did he really?
Speaker B:Oh, yeah, yeah.
Speaker B:He just couldn't.
Speaker C:Oh, wow.
Speaker B:He tried to make a go at it.
Speaker B:Like, I'm going to become a singer.
Speaker B:I'm.
Speaker B:They both went for vocal, like, vocal lessons.
Speaker B:They're both trying to do something like, they're trying to solve their career issues and no one's letting them.
Speaker B:And it's like, but what about Frank Farion, the guy who made the contracts that prevented them from.
Speaker B:Like, these two guys were destitute and had no money.
Speaker B:Here, I'm gonna pay you guys a million dollars to do this.
Speaker B:And you don't have a roof over your head.
Speaker B:You don't have, like, you're starving and you get offered this, of course you're gonna do it.
Speaker B:And they're the bad guys.
Speaker B:I think the bad guys.
Speaker B:The way it's painted is just wrong.
Speaker D:Frank Ferrian had a PR firm to help him.
Speaker D:Millie and Vanilli had no one.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:Disgusting.
Speaker B:So the reason this whole topic came up.
Speaker B:So I was at the in laws place and I had Artepe on, which is their.
Speaker B:The Portuguese channel, right?
Speaker B:And in Portugal, they have something called festas.
Speaker B:So they're basically festivals that run in every city.
Speaker B:Every city has one at some point with, I think, the month of July and August.
Speaker B:So it's kind of like a traveling festival.
Speaker B:And then they set up like a concert stage.
Speaker B:There's food, there's lots of seats, lots of.
Speaker B:There's lots of music, there's fireworks, a whole bunch of things, right?
Speaker B:And it literally hits every single town, village, like through the whole of Portugal, right?
Speaker B:And they televise, like through July and August, they televise all these things.
Speaker B:So you get to see, you know, they'll show like 15 minutes in Porto, another 15 minutes here, another, you know, and show all this stuff.
Speaker B:And all of the performers that perform at these events, everything is backing track, everything is.
Speaker B:There's no live instruments, there is no.
Speaker B:The singer doesn't sing.
Speaker B:It's all.
Speaker B:And so I'm like, well, that's really odd.
Speaker B:I thought it was strange.
Speaker B:So I did a deep dive into it.
Speaker B:And it's because of television.
Speaker B:So they have all their morning shows, and the morning shows are going to report from every single festa that's going on through Portugal.
Speaker B:And the bits have to be concise.
Speaker B:You have 3 minutes and 22 seconds for this bit with this singer.
Speaker B:And it has to be.
Speaker B:You can't have the person deciding to sing an extra verse or whatever.
Speaker B:Like, everything has to be super, super, super tight.
Speaker B:So it's expected within the Portuguese in Portugal that that's.
Speaker B:None of this stuff is ever going to be live.
Speaker B:And we don't want it to be live because we all have a schedule to keep.
Speaker B:So none of these svestas have live bands.
Speaker C:None of them.
Speaker B:Not a single one.
Speaker B:But I thought that was odd.
Speaker B:So then I was watching a series of these and sometimes it's like, okay, well, you can hear a bass, you can hear keyboard, and you can hear a mandolin, and then you can hear like an accordion, right?
Speaker B:But there's only two musicians on stage, like all the time, right?
Speaker B:It's like, well, we couldn't afford to pay the guy to come here.
Speaker B:And, you know, he's on Zoom, right?
Speaker B:And so all the time.
Speaker B:And I was like watching these, going, like, what?
Speaker B:But these.
Speaker B:They sound so talented.
Speaker B:I'd love to see what they sound like live.
Speaker B:And then all of a sudden somebody comes on.
Speaker B:They're out there with a piano and they're playing this beautiful classical piece.
Speaker B:Just beautiful.
Speaker B:And I'm watching the fingers.
Speaker B:It's like, no, this person's playing.
Speaker B:This is not mimed.
Speaker B:And I thought, well, that's odd.
Speaker B:Why does this piano player get to get away with it and play live like, when no one else is?
Speaker B:They're not actually allowed to.
Speaker B:So then I looked into it a bit further and there's a style of music in Portugal called fado.
Speaker B:You guys familiar with fado?
Speaker B:So it's basically.
Speaker B:It's the equivalent of.
Speaker B:It's not opera music, but in terms of class, it's the same level as opera down there.
Speaker B:So it's usually a singer with an amazing range.
Speaker B:Sounds like fantastic.
Speaker B:And it's usually minimal instrumentation.
Speaker B:It's usually maybe three, maybe four other instruments.
Speaker B:You'll get like a guitar, but then you'll get like a really short guitar of some kind.
Speaker B:Like something that.
Speaker B:Unique to Portugal or something.
Speaker B:It won't be a mandolin, but it'll be like something, some other weird thing, like almost like a lute or whatever.
Speaker B:And then you have another person with another stringed instrument.
Speaker B:And then you have someone who might be playing like a hand drummer or whatever.
Speaker B:Now, that music is always live.
Speaker B:And what.
Speaker B:Everything I looked up said, if this was ever not performed live or ever performed without a backing track, that person would be ran out of the industry.
Speaker B:So for some reason the fado has to be live, cannot have backing track under any circumstance.
Speaker B:But the pop is fine.
Speaker D:Yeah.
Speaker C:I wonder if that's, like you said, if that's getting broadcast live, because I know the Super Bowl, Corey.
Speaker C:Right.
Speaker C:I think they have.
Speaker B:That's all their preference.
Speaker C:Their preference is that it's pre recorded because then at least they know there's technical issues.
Speaker C:We've still got a show.
Speaker C:Yeah, right.
Speaker C:We can still blare everything.
Speaker C:And I'm sure that, you know, even the live bands they might have now, they might have backing tracks that'll come in just in case everything cuts out.
Speaker C:So they can for the broadcaster, they don't lose out all the advertising dollars.
Speaker C:Right.
Speaker C:So I wonder if that plays into it with like.
Speaker C:Well, with the pop acts, there's more variables in there.
Speaker C:Maybe with this, this fado, maybe just culturally there's more tolerance for something going wrong.
Speaker C:Or maybe, I don't know, it's.
Speaker C:But I wonder if that plays into it, that sort of.
Speaker C:That reliability of the.
Speaker C:Of the actual performance we've got.
Speaker C:Because like you said, we've got three and a half minutes.
Speaker C:We know it's in the can, we know it's solid.
Speaker C:Go out there and dance.
Speaker C:We're good.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:I'm curious.
Speaker D:The bands where something goes wrong, like Metallica at the Grammys, they're the bands that, oh, no, we're going to play live.
Speaker D:We're not doing any of this backing shit.
Speaker D:And then they forget to turn James Mike on for the first chorus of the song.
Speaker D:I think the only artist in recent memory that actually told the Super Bowl, I either play live or nothing, and I'm not recording a backup is Bruce Springsteen.
Speaker B:Didn't.
Speaker B:Prince did too, didn't he?
Speaker C:Prince did.
Speaker C:Petty and the Heartbreakers did.
Speaker D:There's been a bunch they played live, but I think they also recorded safety tracks and backups just in case.
Speaker B:Because now, like, the.
Speaker B:You do a lot of, like, live stuff, right, Corey?
Speaker B:Like, a lot of, like, you do the telethons and stuff.
Speaker D:Yep.
Speaker C:So.
Speaker B:One thing that I was told.
Speaker B:So I was talking to a bunch of Portuguese people about this weird phenomena, that nothing's allowed to be alive unless it's fado.
Speaker B:And he said, well, why would you want it to be live?
Speaker B:And I'm like, well, why wouldn't I want it to be live?
Speaker B:So then he explained, look, do you know how big these stadiums are?
Speaker B:They're fucking massive.
Speaker B:So when someone is, you know, hitting the strings on the stage, and then, you know, it's 100,000 people or whatever, the person at the back, there's a delay on the sound.
Speaker B:Like you're.
Speaker B:They're not.
Speaker B:The sound travels and it travels slowly.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:So when in these big venues, he said, why would you want.
Speaker B:Like, the sound doesn't travel at the same velocities, so maybe the bass and the drums aren't going to be synced up.
Speaker B:You're going to get, like, fucked up audio.
Speaker C:No.
Speaker D:Do they not have.
Speaker D:They have delay towers in stadiums?
Speaker D:Yeah.
Speaker D:That's why you see those towers going on.
Speaker D:Yeah.
Speaker D:Delay towers so that when you want.
Speaker D:You're watching the video on the screen and you're way in the back, like I'm gonna experience in a few weeks at Foo Fighters.
Speaker D:I'm still.
Speaker D:It's.
Speaker D:Everything's gonna be synced perfectly.
Speaker D:Case.
Speaker D:They have delay towers.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker B:So that delays some of the signals.
Speaker B:All of the signals.
Speaker B:How does it work?
Speaker D:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker D:It's taking that main mix feed and it's just delaying it.
Speaker D:However far between.
Speaker D:However many feet the delay towers are between each other.
Speaker D:So.
Speaker D:So that guy in the very, very back of the stadium is watching Dave Grohl singing, and his voice is perfectly matched.
Speaker D:But like you said, if it was just coming through the shit that was on stage, the ampson speakers, there'd be a. Yeah, there'd be a massive delay.
Speaker D:So is there these big delay towers?
Speaker B:Are the delay towers?
Speaker B:Are they like speakers?
Speaker B:Yeah, so.
Speaker B:Okay, okay, that.
Speaker B:Okay, that.
Speaker B:So the argument to me was, we're not going to fuck up a football game just for some musician.
Speaker B:A soccer game.
Speaker B:Sorry.
Speaker D:Like, there wouldn't be delay towers for a soccer game.
Speaker D:Right.
Speaker E:Because soccer.
Speaker E:Football.
Speaker B:Well, soccer.
Speaker D:He was very clear.
Speaker B:What did Todd call it?
Speaker B:Todd has a new name for it.
Speaker D:We will Wobble Wobble in America.
Speaker B:It's called Weeble Wobble Ball.
Speaker B:Because they don't have an original thought in their fucking heads that they can't come up with a name for their own fucking sport.
Speaker B:No, we're just going to borrow from over there.
Speaker B:Sorry.
Speaker E:I was like the Rough Riders.
Speaker C:Well, if you want me to talk.
Speaker D:About our rough Fighters came first.
Speaker D:Ottawa stole our name.
Speaker C:You want context on that?
Speaker C:It's called football.
Speaker C:Not because it was kicked with the foot.
Speaker C:Because it was played on foot rather than on horseback.
Speaker B:Yes, yes.
Speaker C:So, you know, and it was association football, rugby football.
Speaker C:There's many different types of football.
Speaker C:So people who've got to stick up their ass about it just need to calm down.
Speaker C:Call it whatever you like.
Speaker D:As long as everything dive ball, fine, it's dive ball.
Speaker D:Because you watch, very well paid millionaires dropped to the ground like they were shot by a sniper because they got kicked in a shoelace.
Speaker B:Okay, Corey, I'm bored.
Speaker C:Can I log off?
Speaker D:This is.
Speaker B:This is the thing my daughter said.
Speaker B:She goes, how come when I watch the women play, none of that stuff happens?
Speaker D:Yeah, they're tougher.
Speaker D:They're better.
Speaker B:Women are better.
Speaker C:More integrity.
Speaker D:We have more integrity.
Speaker E:Yeah, when you got to push a bowling ball out of your body, you can.
Speaker E:You can take a little bit of, you know, abuse.
Speaker B:He almost touched me.
Speaker B:I'm going to fall down.
Speaker B:I pressed a bowling ball, motherfucker.
Speaker E:Okay, Corey, you got to tell me, do you know the history on the Rough Rider name?
Speaker E:Why one province, you know, took it and then another province went, what should we call ourselves?
Speaker D:The Rough Riders?
Speaker D:Well, that one's already taken.
Speaker C:So.
Speaker D:I used to know.
Speaker D:I used to know the entire story.
Speaker D:But yeah, Ottawa's was a rough Riders with a space in between.
Speaker D:And it was.
Speaker D:It wasn't their football team, it was their rugby team.
Speaker D:And then Saskatchewan changed their rugby team.
Speaker D:They were the Rough Riders altogether.
Speaker D:And Ottawa was a different name for the football team.
Speaker D:Then they decided to co op Rough Riders with a space in between.
Speaker D:And they said, saskatchewan, you should change.
Speaker D:Saskatchewan said, no, we were first.
Speaker D:Go fuck yourselves.
Speaker D:So we ended up with two teams.
Speaker D:For the longest time, I named Rough Riders.
Speaker D:And then Ottawa said, okay, we'll just change our name to the worst possible football name in the history of the planet.
Speaker D:We'll call ourselves the Red Blacks because they're lazy.
Speaker C:Name.
Speaker D:Yeah, they're predominantly black and white with a little bit of.
Speaker D:A little tinge of red every once in a while, but they're the Red Blacks.
Speaker E:So back in the day, did they play each other?
Speaker D:Oh, yeah.
Speaker D:When they're both in the Canadian Football League.
Speaker D:Yeah, it was Rough Riders versus Rough Riders.
Speaker D:One had a space, one didn't.
Speaker E:So how did the announcers differentiate between the teams when they were calling the game?
Speaker D:Well, fortunately, Todd, and if you knew your Canadian football history, you would know that whoever covered the CFL usually did so very poorly.
Speaker D:Currently TSN is currently butchering it.
Speaker D:CBC used to butcher it before that.
Speaker D:So it was not done well, but it blended right in because nothing was done well.
Speaker D:Camera angles, graphics.
Speaker D:A lot of times you'd see like a handheld guy just shooting like butterflies and they'd cut to that, like terrible.
Speaker E:It's like 10 year olds when, when they're playing soccer and it's just, you look over and they're sitting on the ground playing with flowers or something.
Speaker B:Then there's that like unco angle where that guy's just watching that girl in the crowd and he won't leave.
Speaker D:There's quite a few of those.
Speaker D:Yeah.
Speaker E:Are we live?
Speaker C:That's the thing, what everyone observes, right?
Speaker C:There's never any ugly women at the World cup ever.
Speaker C:You never.
Speaker C:Well, you never see them anyway, right?
Speaker C:They're.
Speaker D:They're in there somewhere.
Speaker D:They're just never, never get any FaceTime.
Speaker C:I just wanted to commend though, I think that, you know, one thing that gets overlooked with the naming of the.
Speaker C: is, you know, because it was: Speaker C:When did.
Speaker C:When were they formed, Corey?
Speaker D:Oh, it was earlier than that.
Speaker E:Yeah.
Speaker C:Really.
Speaker C:So, I mean to, you know, it's very progressive to name a big, manly, masculine football team after a gay porn franchise.
Speaker C:I think that's, that's pretty co.
Speaker D:I thought that was a gay porn franchise.
Speaker E:At the time.
Speaker B:Is that a rap band?
Speaker B:I don't know.
Speaker C:Rough Riders.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker C:You know what that is?
Speaker D: or they changed their name in: Speaker D:Origin of the name is the northwest model, please.
Speaker D:Because of course RCMP depot is in Regina, Saskatchewan.
Speaker D:So that's where they derive their name.
Speaker D:So there's actually makes sense.
Speaker B:Regina, the city that rhymes with fun.
Speaker D: hey say Their name originated: Speaker D:So yeah, we're going to take the name.
Speaker E:West reference.
Speaker E:Yeah.
Speaker E:Yep.
Speaker D:Teddy Roosevelt.
Speaker C:That people ragging on the CFO and calling it a joke league.
Speaker C:Well, just because you got two.
Speaker C:Two team, second name 80.
Speaker B:Go ahead.
Speaker B:Go ahead, Kevin.
Speaker B:Here's your rant music here for you.
Speaker D:My favorite joke, I think of all time.
Speaker D:You ever watched Futurama?
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker D:He had a character named Dr. Zoidberg.
Speaker D:He was like this lobster creature.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker E:Yeah.
Speaker D:He was gonna fight somebody in his home planet and now they're in a stadium.
Speaker D:He said now please rise for the playing of our national anthem.
Speaker D:And it's that song.
Speaker D:Everyone's got their hand over their heart.
Speaker B:Oh, that was great.
Speaker B:That's so funny.
Speaker B:Okay, so let's.
Speaker B:I don't know what time is it?
Speaker B:What time you guys got to record?
Speaker B:At 9, 8:30 or.
Speaker B:I don't know what time is it?
Speaker C:Yeah, 9.
Speaker C:9.
Speaker C:As long as we're done in the next.
Speaker C:I know, half hour.
Speaker C:Corey, you want to be done by about eight?
Speaker B:All right, can we do.
Speaker B:Can we do another pass or go.
Speaker D:Hell yeah.
Speaker C:Don't show us what it is this time.
Speaker B:No, no, no, no.
Speaker B:Well, I'm just gonna play Close your eyes.
Speaker B:By the way, the, The.
Speaker B:The sax slander is going to continue.
Speaker C:Prick.
Speaker B:Okay, I'm going to play.
Speaker B:I'm going to play a song.
Speaker B:I'm not going to say who it is, but it's related to something we've talked about in the last hour and 15 or whatever.
Speaker D:We've covered the whole gamut.
Speaker D:Jeez, that's going to encompasses a lot of potential music.
Speaker B:Okay, you know what?
Speaker B:When I was.
Speaker B:When I. I do.
Speaker B:Okay, maybe I'm just going to have to play this now.
Speaker B:I got to find it.
Speaker B:When I made that comment about the toilet flushing and then recording it and then somebody turning it to beat, that's something I actually did in my Cyberlove project.
Speaker B:So if you listen to cyber shopping, there's a moment in there where it's the flush and it goes.
Speaker B:But then we put it through the keyboard so you could play different, like, keys.
Speaker B:Like, different notes of.
Speaker B:Of the flush.
Speaker B:That was.
Speaker E:How come I don't know this?
Speaker E:I never knew this.
Speaker B:You didn't know this?
Speaker E:No.
Speaker C:And just very faintly, if you've listened to it too faintly in the background, you can hear it won't go down again.
Speaker D:Get the puncher.
Speaker D:How do you get the tape measure?
Speaker D:This might be a world record.
Speaker C:Like, you need to stop eating so much cheese,.
Speaker A:Sam.
Speaker A:It.
Speaker B:Talk about the worst casting call of all time.
Speaker B:Like, I'm looking for a singer and a dancer for my dance music project.
Speaker B:I'm like, I can do it.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker B:And then that was it.
Speaker B:Then I was in.
Speaker B:And she's like, oh, fucking.
Speaker B:What a fucking mess this guy is.
Speaker D:You can't dance at all.
Speaker B:No, I couldn't, but that's when I had a lot of hair.
Speaker B:And I was actually kind of a handsome fella because I see my face behind the hair.
Speaker C:But black actors put on their cvs.
Speaker C:I can horse ride.
Speaker C:I can definitely horse a sword fight.
Speaker C:I can sword fight.
Speaker C:Yeah, definitely.
Speaker E:Okay, so.
Speaker E:So now you have to put a picture of you with your long hair.
Speaker B:All right.
Speaker C:Yes.
Speaker B:As the.
Speaker B:I got to find portrait for this podcast.
Speaker B:Pictures of myself because I'm not the.
Speaker B:I'm not the prettiest man in the room.
Speaker D:Well, at least take your.
Speaker D:Take your Sean Geek and fast rat logo here and the one that's two feet smaller.
Speaker D:Put a lot of long hair on it at least.
Speaker D:There you go.
Speaker B:I could just draw, like, with a marker or whatever.
Speaker D:Like, last week, you had the.
Speaker D:You had the saxophone.
Speaker B:Did you guys see this one?
Speaker E:Oh, yeah, right.
Speaker E:The saxophone in the.
Speaker D:Yeah, we can't see because you got stupid zoom backgrounds on.
Speaker B:Oh, yeah, yeah.
Speaker B:So.
Speaker B:God damn it, Abby.
Speaker E:Own it, Abby.
Speaker B:Abby drew me a poster.
Speaker B:She said, you need this in your studio.
Speaker B:So she drew a poster of me with my.
Speaker D:I'll assume it looks great.
Speaker B:Yeah, it looks awesome.
Speaker B:If only I wasn't using zoom.
Speaker B:Okay, so we're gonna play this song, and, you guys.
Speaker B:It's not in English.
Speaker C:Oh, fuck.
Speaker B:See?
Speaker B:Okay, so can you enjoy?
Speaker B:Can't understand the words.
Speaker C:Not.
Speaker C:Not usually.
Speaker C:Not if it's.
Speaker C:If it's instrumental, I don't need lyrics.
Speaker C:But if it's in a foreign language, it's usually.
Speaker C:Yeah, we'll see.
Speaker B:See, I listen to melody.
Speaker B:I could care less about the words.
Speaker B:The words are less important than the intent of the well, yeah.
Speaker C:Your kiss.
Speaker C:Fun.
Speaker E:Yeah, like the.
Speaker E:Was it that Icelandic band?
Speaker E:What was the one that raised to listen to.
Speaker E:It was never words.
Speaker E:It was just all.
Speaker B:Why.
Speaker C:Throw singing?
Speaker B:What the hell were they called, Todd?
Speaker E:Something Icelandic.
Speaker E:Something.
Speaker A:I can't.
Speaker B:I'm gonna find it.
Speaker A:Sam.
Speaker A:You.
Speaker A:It's you.
Speaker A:It's you.
Speaker A:It's you.
Speaker D:You were called.
Speaker D:A flute is a pipe.
Speaker D:If what A flute is a pipe.
Speaker B:Okay, here we go.
Speaker D:Flute is the pap.
Speaker B:The pap.
Speaker B:Okay, I'm just gonna randomly pick this.
Speaker B:I, I, I don't know enough, but here we go.
Speaker D:Here we go.
Speaker D:So professional on this show.
Speaker D:I love it.
Speaker D:I'm just gonna randomly pick a.
Speaker C:Josh.
Speaker B:Is all over this, by the way.
Speaker C:It's got a bit of that feel to it.
Speaker E:Yeah,.
Speaker A:With some Charlotte.
Speaker C:Great.
Speaker C:You saw our plane.
Speaker B:Fantastic.
Speaker B:No backing tracks.
Speaker B:There's your hint.
Speaker C:So are we supposed to be guessing who this is?
Speaker C:Like Esmeralda Gonzalez.
Speaker D:I just want to know.
Speaker B:Like, it's like, this sucks.
Speaker B:Turn it off or.
Speaker B:Wow, this is really good.
Speaker C:It's fine.
Speaker C:It's fine.
Speaker C:I'd never really particularly want to listen to it again.
Speaker C:Does that.
Speaker C:What does that land?
Speaker C:I'm not sure.
Speaker D:It's the Fantastic four First Steps movie.
Speaker B:Oh, Jesus Christ.
Speaker D:Watch the Fox movie again.
Speaker E:Have you, have you been to the Forks Kite and Caboodle?
Speaker B:Well, they don't even know what a Forks is.
Speaker B:I know what those words are, in that order.
Speaker C:I'm not sure what it means.
Speaker D:Okay, so I've used a Fork.
Speaker E:It's a store that sells kites and other stuff.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker E:And when you walk in there, they've got.
Speaker D:At the cash register.
Speaker E:Have you ever gone to a store in the cash register?
Speaker B:I've been to a bunch of CDs.
Speaker E:They've got a bunch of CDs of people that you've never heard of before.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker C:And it's like pan pipes.
Speaker E:Yeah.
Speaker E:And then they've got like a sticker on the one that's currently playing.
Speaker E:You're like, what are they playing?
Speaker D:So is this place right next to the missile silo you work at, Todd?
Speaker D:No, no.
Speaker D:One block down.
Speaker C:Missiles are us.
Speaker D:Winnipeg is a strange town.
Speaker E:Yeah.
Speaker D:Nice.
Speaker D:And the guitar was great, but.
Speaker D:Yeah, I don't think I'd rush to put it back on my.
Speaker B:So that, that was some.
Speaker B:That was some fado, Fado type of music.
Speaker B:In Portugal, she is one of the largest selling, like.
Speaker B:So, for example, this particular Taylor Swift of Fado.
Speaker E:I thought it was Italian.
Speaker B:No, no, it's Portuguese.
Speaker D:I thought it was Jewish.
Speaker B:This song here, this particular song is Yiddish.
Speaker B:Plays just on YouTube music.
Speaker E:Wow.
Speaker D:So she's.
Speaker B:She's huge.
Speaker C:Is it current?
Speaker C:Like this is modern?
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:Oh yeah.
Speaker C:Okay.
Speaker B:I will tell you.
Speaker B:Even though me and my father in law barely speak the same language or any language as the same language, we put a concert on of this artist.
Speaker B:Her name is Marissa.
Speaker B:He put this on and we watched the whole fucking thing.
Speaker B:It was an hour long fado concert.
Speaker B:Neither one of us said a fucking thing through the whole thing.
Speaker B:We just sat there and watched it.
Speaker B:And I think we're both like, look.
Speaker C:At Todd, stop fingering that pussy.
Speaker B:Just like, just like a pro.
Speaker B:It's awesome.
Speaker D:He's so disinterested in what you're saying right now about your father in law.
Speaker D:He's fingering that pussy.
Speaker B:Oh my God.
Speaker A:Oh.
Speaker C:Comments Either.
Speaker D:I was engrossed in your story.
Speaker B:So anyway, it was like one of.
Speaker E:The people who can't see.
Speaker B:Yeah, one of those weird bonding moments between a Canadian and a Portuguese guy.
Speaker B:I don't speak much Portuguese.
Speaker B:He doesn't speak much English.
Speaker B:But he put this on because I know Sean is a musician.
Speaker B:Okay, fine.
Speaker B:Puts it on.
Speaker B:I watch this and I'm like enamored.
Speaker B:The guitar playing.
Speaker B:Three different guitar players, one guy.
Speaker B:And each guy kept switching the instrument.
Speaker B:Watching this for an hour and watching the.
Speaker B:A fado concert is like a very intimate concert.
Speaker B:The lights are low.
Speaker B:This.
Speaker B:Whoops, sorry.
Speaker B:The lights are low.
Speaker B:The stage is small.
Speaker B:Yeah, I know, old man with whatever.
Speaker B:But it was, it was so cool.
Speaker B:And we.
Speaker D:He.
Speaker B:He looked at me, goes, did you like that?
Speaker B:I said, I really like that.
Speaker B:He goes, good.
Speaker B:She's a very sexy woman and I've been.
Speaker B:I. I actually own some of her stuff in my, in my CD collection.
Speaker B:She is huge in the fado community and if she ever fucking back and tracked anything, she would no longer be the best selling.
Speaker B:Like one of the best selling fado artists in the world.
Speaker B:So that was some fado so Pastor Go.
Speaker C:Yeah, pass me.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker C:Just doesn't spin my donuts too much.
Speaker D:One song.
Speaker D:I'd give it a go.
Speaker D:Yeah, very well done.
Speaker D:But I got to correct you one thing.
Speaker D:Your father in law and you were sitting there in silence watching this.
Speaker D:The whole time.
Speaker D:He's thinking his fucking son in law might won't fucking say a word.
Speaker D:What the hell.
Speaker D:Say something, prick.
Speaker D:I'm not going to talk first.
Speaker D:You talk first.
Speaker D:What an asshole.
Speaker B:But now he'll pop.
Speaker B:Like I bought him a couple of CDs because he didn't have any CDs.
Speaker B:So I bought him a couple CDs of Marisa.
Speaker B:And he's like, oh, this is good.
Speaker D:Kiss and say, play this now.
Speaker D:This is a kiss for my land.
Speaker C:The Portuguese, Anne Marie.
Speaker B:Oh, Jesus.
Speaker B:You know, my father in law, you know what he made me do?
Speaker B:He was like.
Speaker B:He was like, oh, Sylvie, your husband, he's a drummer and a singer.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:I'm going to take advantage.
Speaker B:So he brings me as a.
Speaker B:He brings me to this.
Speaker B:We're in Lac to Bonnie, and then there's this house.
Speaker B:They're having a big karaoke party, right?
Speaker B:And I go in, he drags me there.
Speaker B:Sean, come, come, come to this party.
Speaker B:And where are we going?
Speaker B:We go into this party and it's a karaoke party.
Speaker B:And they're.
Speaker B:It's whatever.
Speaker B:Default Nickelback, whatever.
Speaker B:Everyone's horribly miming these horrible bands, right?
Speaker B:Or horrible.
Speaker B:Doing a horrible job on great songs.
Speaker B:And then he's like.
Speaker B:He's just smiling like, you know, I got a ringer here.
Speaker B:I got a ringer here.
Speaker B:He makes me go up and sing.
Speaker B:Like, I don't want to sing.
Speaker B:Look, these people are having a good time.
Speaker B:They're all hammered or stoned.
Speaker B:They're singing.
Speaker B:They're having a good time doing karaoke.
Speaker B:I'm not gonna go and sing up.
Speaker B:I'm not gonna upstage anyone.
Speaker B:I'm not gonna.
Speaker B:I'm just gonna sit.
Speaker D:That's when Sean got up and sang this.
Speaker B:Oh, my God.
Speaker B:So the guy whose house it was knew who I was.
Speaker B:He'd actually bought my CD and stuff.
Speaker B:He goes, oh, we're gonna get him to sing at my karaoke party.
Speaker B:And I'm not gonna pay him.
Speaker B:He was all excited, right?
Speaker B:He was all excited.
Speaker B:So he says, can you do the Sounds of Silence?
Speaker B:Can go up there and sing the sounds?
Speaker B:I'm like, in hell.
Speaker B:I'm gonna sing Derek.
Speaker B:Derek.
Speaker B:Or David was his fucking name.
Speaker B:David Draiman.
Speaker B:Disturbed.
Speaker D:That shithead from Disturbed.
Speaker C:Oh, not that one.
Speaker C:Not that version.
Speaker D:For fuck's sake, do the real version.
Speaker B:I'm like, fine.
Speaker B:And I was trying my father in law.
Speaker B:I'm trying to, you know, have a good, you know, son in law, father in law.
Speaker C:Fuck that.
Speaker C:Just get remarried, man.
Speaker C:Fucking hell, no.
Speaker E:So too much work.
Speaker B:I rolled the dice and I. I sang it.
Speaker B:And then they're all like, after that, nobody wanted to do karaoke anymore.
Speaker D:Good, man.
Speaker D:It was that bad.
Speaker D:You chased them all out of the room.
Speaker D:Oh, my God.
Speaker B:I. I did a good job.
Speaker B:It's not A hard song to sing.
Speaker D:Well, that from Disturbed can do it.
Speaker D:So anybody.
Speaker B:Anybody could do it.
Speaker B:I. I even brought the dog in.
Speaker B:He did a good job, but so I did that.
Speaker B:And then I was like, oh, fucking hell.
Speaker B:Fucking lack the Bonnie, like, weird stories.
Speaker B:Did I tell you their story where I sat in with another band?
Speaker B:So there's a band playing.
Speaker B:I'm gonna tell the story because it's my show.
Speaker B:So y' all went down the street.
Speaker B:I could hear a bunch of music playing, right?
Speaker B:So there's a big show playing at, like, the big event place, right?
Speaker B:And man, he's like, fuck that guy.
Speaker B:We're gonna go to this party.
Speaker B:I'm like, okay, fine.
Speaker B:So we go to this party and there's a band playing.
Speaker B:He had.
Speaker B:The guy actually built a stage on the side of his fucking cottage.
Speaker B:And he's got big fucking Marshall amps and everything.
Speaker B:He's playing a Stratocaster.
Speaker B:And him and the bass player up there.
Speaker B:And he's up there.
Speaker B:Cocaine.
Speaker B:Because he didn't know the words.
Speaker B:And he's singing along.
Speaker B:And I'm like, you got a fucking drum set up there?
Speaker B:Nobody's playing.
Speaker B:So, like, I wait through the song, and no drummers coming up.
Speaker B:I've had like seven or eight drinks by this point.
Speaker B:So I'm like, you fucking losers.
Speaker B:You got a drum set?
Speaker B:You know, So I just walk up on stage.
Speaker B:They're halfway through, so song, the Foo Fighters, they playing Everlong or something.
Speaker B:So I get up on stage and I sit behind the drum set, grab the sticks, and I start playing like, hey, this is a private show.
Speaker D:Who the are you playing on?
Speaker B:He's like, follow my lead.
Speaker B:And they're like, oh, it.
Speaker D:Whatever.
Speaker B:And then he's like.
Speaker B:And then, you know, the song ends.
Speaker B:I play half the song and then I get up, he goes, no, no, sit back down.
Speaker B:I played the whole fucking night.
Speaker B:And Manny, the whole time, my father in law's got his arms crossed, going, that's my son in law.
Speaker D:That's my son in law.
Speaker D:Don't tell anyone else.
Speaker D:I'm ashamed.
Speaker C:I'm just curious, Sean, do you only ever speak to your father in law when you're climbing up a mountain?
Speaker C:Because he sounds out of breath quite a lot of the time.
Speaker C:Whether you sort of.
Speaker B:Yeah, he is.
Speaker D:How does your father in law sound, Kevin?
Speaker D:Yeah.
Speaker D:Yeah.
Speaker B:Let's get an impersonation of your father in law.
Speaker C:Well, very flat and quite monotone and quite quiet.
Speaker C:And so when there's a lot happening in the house, I have to ask him to speak up and then he raises his volume to about this level.
Speaker B:But it's all the same.
Speaker B:Is he, Is he.
Speaker C:He's.
Speaker B:He's Saskatchewan.
Speaker A:Right?
Speaker B:He's like Saskatchewan Saskatchewanian.
Speaker C:From Prince Albert.
Speaker B:Oh, Pops used to work up there.
Speaker C:I used to live up there.
Speaker B:Oh, I'm sorry.
Speaker C:Shit's all.
Speaker B:That's what dad said, right?
Speaker B:Todd Prince Albert, this guest.
Speaker E:Huh?
Speaker E:Saskatchewan.
Speaker B:Saskatchewan.
Speaker E:That was that guy in the movie.
Speaker E:Was it?
Speaker E:Hey, I'm from Saskatchewan by.
Speaker C:Yeah, grown ups.
Speaker E:I think it is.
Speaker C:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker E:One of those.
Speaker C:One of the sons of the movies.
Speaker B:Okay, well now we're, we're going to do the gamut.
Speaker B:So Corey, my father in law.
Speaker D:Oh he's awesome.
Speaker D:He's from Ontario and he's a natural storyteller.
Speaker D:But if you're talking about a subject he finds boring, you'll just break in with something to create a whole new topic of conversation.
Speaker D:So you and I could be talking about music and out of nowhere he'd go, you know that Dolly Barton had some big breasts.
Speaker D:And then he would break into a story about Dolly Parton and her tits.
Speaker D:And you just had to kind of go with it.
Speaker D:And it'd be like a 20 minute conversation.
Speaker D:And he would just be captivated.
Speaker D:He never buttons up his shirt.
Speaker D:He has it unbuttoned to the navel to show off his man main on his chest.
Speaker B:Love that.
Speaker D:And he will just approach anybody and just strike up a conversation.
Speaker B:About half Portuguese or by any chance.
Speaker D:No, he's not.
Speaker D:He's just.
Speaker D:He's a dairy farmer from Lucknow, Ontario.
Speaker C:I was gonna ask if he plays drums and guitar at the same time.
Speaker E:We should have him on as a guest.
Speaker B:You know what?
Speaker D:For Albuquerque.
Speaker D:I wouldn't get a word in edgewise.
Speaker D:It'd be great.
Speaker E:Yeah.
Speaker B:Knew I should have made a left joint.
Speaker A:Albert.
Speaker B:So I have, I have.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker B:So that, the button down shirt thing.
Speaker B:So when I was, I was in Portugal.
Speaker B:When I went to Portugal.
Speaker B:We're totally off the fucking rails.
Speaker B:It's.
Speaker B:It's Cory's fault.
Speaker B:We'll just blame it on him.
Speaker D:Sure.
Speaker B:So when I went to Portugal, I think, see my buttons?
Speaker B:You know, rather tight.
Speaker B:I don't like being naked.
Speaker B:I have we talked about this two episodes that were.
Speaker B:Todd, I don't like being naked.
Speaker C:Are you a never nude?
Speaker B:Kind of a never nude.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker E:You don't like to be naked.
Speaker E:When do we have this?
Speaker B:See, Todd doesn't listen to our show.
Speaker B:He's not paying attention when we're recording the show.
Speaker D:I'M on this fucking show.
Speaker D:I never heard that before.
Speaker B:I don't like being naked in front of people.
Speaker B:It makes me nervous.
Speaker B:It makes me uncomfortable.
Speaker B:I'm not one of these, you know, these.
Speaker B:These jocks, like, hey, look at my chest.
Speaker B:You know, they're like, never wear a shirt.
Speaker B:They're rollerblading around town, you know, That's.
Speaker D:Kevin when he's walking.
Speaker D:Hey, it's got this little Speedo on.
Speaker E:This is what I call dressed.
Speaker E:Usually when I get home, Hugh Hefner comes out.
Speaker D:House coat.
Speaker C:Here we go.
Speaker D:Slippers.
Speaker C:No pipe.
Speaker B:That's it.
Speaker D:That's it.
Speaker E:No pipe.
Speaker D:So thank goodness you're wearing pants and a shirt today.
Speaker B:Look at this fucking thing.
Speaker D:Yes.
Speaker B:Look at this pipe.
Speaker D:It's pretty impressive.
Speaker C:Corey, what's going on?
Speaker E:Pipe for what?
Speaker B:I don't know.
Speaker E:Why is the thing flipped upwards?
Speaker D:It's not my podcast.
Speaker D:He's got a.
Speaker D:He's got a.
Speaker E:He's got an erection.
Speaker E:Like, why is your pipe.
Speaker E:Why is your thing upward?
Speaker D:Do you realize it's like a clam?
Speaker D:When you pull a clam and it's got the.
Speaker B:Like the little tail that comes out and you look at the.
Speaker E:Yeah, drill some holes in it.
Speaker D:Yeah, drill some holes in it.
Speaker D:It's a flute.
Speaker B:Someone gifted this to me.
Speaker B:What do they mean?
Speaker B:Why would they.
Speaker B:Why would this be gifted to me?
Speaker D:I would take great offense.
Speaker C:Yeah, me too.
Speaker E:You used to have a beard.
Speaker C:Maybe even Umbridge.
Speaker D:Yeah, Umbridge.
Speaker E:Yeah.
Speaker B:Maybe they think I'm an investigator.
Speaker D:Oh, God, no.
Speaker D:No.
Speaker D:You don't have the IQ for that.
Speaker D:I'm not sure.
Speaker B:Oh, I definitely don't have the IQ for that.
Speaker B:I think people think I'm like this big pothead.
Speaker D:I would explain.
Speaker E:Is that what that is?
Speaker B:Todd, you remember we went to that Jimi Hendrix thing?
Speaker B:Was it Jimi Hendrix?
Speaker E:No.
Speaker B:We went to.
Speaker D:You know he's dead, right?
Speaker C:Here we go.
Speaker E:We went to that back in 72.
Speaker D:No, we went.
Speaker D:How old are you guys?
Speaker D:We went.
Speaker B:We went to that fringe Play, and that was the.
Speaker B:It was the guitar guy who's going through, like, the different stages of guitar through the years and whatever.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker B:And I had my Jimi Hendrix T shirt.
Speaker B:I love Jimmy.
Speaker D:Okay.
Speaker C:Okay.
Speaker B:Fantastic.
Speaker B:Right?
Speaker E:Remember now?
Speaker E:Yeah.
Speaker B:And he's like.
Speaker B:He looks at the crowd like this guy over there, big pot smoker.
Speaker B:He's pointing at me.
Speaker B:I'm like, dude, I'm so square.
Speaker D:You know what?
Speaker D:You know.
Speaker B:You know when my wife and I talk about a good night of drinking, we're having coffee at 9 o'.
Speaker C:Clock.
Speaker B:I'm the least interesting person in the room.
Speaker D:I take umbrage for that, sir.
Speaker D:I'm not a pothead.
Speaker B:No.
Speaker C:I don't even have sugar and coffee, sir.
Speaker C:Do you?
Speaker A:No.
Speaker B:No sugar in your.
Speaker B:Oh, I guess you can't have sugar in your coffee.
Speaker D:No sugar tonight in my coffee.
Speaker D:No sugar tonight in my tea.
Speaker D:Yeah, me and Todd run the same wavelength because we're both really old classic rock fans.
Speaker C:Shitty Guess who song is it or something.
Speaker D:Yeah, it's a really bad one.
Speaker B:Yeah, I have a clip for that, too.
Speaker D:I did play one on my radio show, which I'm gonna plug unnecessarily now.
Speaker D:But I played Running Back to Saskatoon.
Speaker B:I do like that song.
Speaker D:I actually like that song Pass you mentioned.
Speaker D:I thought it.
Speaker A:Was.
Speaker A:I've been hanging around gas stations.
Speaker A:I've been learning about tires.
Speaker A:I've been talking to grease monkeys.
Speaker A:I've been working on cars.
Speaker C:Boost.
Speaker A:I saw you booze them into running back to Saskatoon.
Speaker A:Sing another prayer or two.
Speaker D:I did play April Wine for you, Todd.
Speaker B:That's good.
Speaker D:Oh, and Triumph.
Speaker D:I played.
Speaker D:No, Triumph is what you wanted.
Speaker D:Fight the good Fight.
Speaker D:I played that one for you.
Speaker E:Yeah.
Speaker D:Sean asked for New Meanings and I couldn't find a good clean copy of New Meanie, so I wasn't able to play it.
Speaker B:Do you have a Dropbox, Corey?
Speaker D:No.
Speaker D:Dropbox is evil.
Speaker B:It is kind of evil.
Speaker B:I can share them.
Speaker B:I have.
Speaker C:I have everything.
Speaker B:Like, I have all.
Speaker D:Okay, send me the song you want me to play.
Speaker D:I'll play it next week.
Speaker C:Sure.
Speaker B:They're.
Speaker B:They're great, but they.
Speaker B:They backed out of the record deal.
Speaker B:They had a record deal with Virgin.
Speaker B:Virgin.
Speaker B:I think it was Virgin.
Speaker B:And they were the.
Speaker B:Like, the biggest unsigned band out of Winnipeg.
Speaker B:Then they finally got fucking signed.
Speaker B:And then they came in.
Speaker B:I told this story on the show before, but they said the band has three singers, right?
Speaker B:So the label said, okay, too many singers in this band.
Speaker B:Nobody likes that.
Speaker B:So only one person is allowed to sing.
Speaker B:You can sing.
Speaker B:So they picked their singer out of the three.
Speaker B:They also said, okay, the singer.
Speaker B:You're kind of too fat.
Speaker B:You gotta lose some weight.
Speaker B:So they started every.
Speaker B:Every shot of them was like, up.
Speaker B:Like shooting from up to down to slim him down.
Speaker C:Drone shot.
Speaker E:Yeah.
Speaker B:And then they were like, you have to shave.
Speaker B:Like, he was always kind of like rough shaven, sort of like, you know, not very clean shaven.
Speaker B:So, like, you got to shave more often.
Speaker B:You got to do your hair.
Speaker B:Like, they made him do all these things to aesthetically physically look handsome.
Speaker E:Why don't they just Photoshop them then, at that point?
Speaker B:Well, they had to shoot videos and stuff and it was hire a good.
Speaker D:Looking guy in Millie Vanillum.
Speaker B:Yeah, exactly.
Speaker B:So they had a lot of pressure and they also said, look, there's too much hard rock in your songs.
Speaker B:Too much guitar.
Speaker B:Can you bring the guitar back?
Speaker B:And stuff.
Speaker B:So they.
Speaker B:They basically just kind of tried, like, try to neuter them, like.
Speaker D:Yeah.
Speaker E:You're not.
Speaker D:Not a fan of the artist, are you?
Speaker D:If you keep trying to change everything about them.
Speaker C:Can you just be a different band, please, altogether?
Speaker D:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker C:With different people in it.
Speaker D:Yeah.
Speaker C:Making different music.
Speaker D:Completely different music.
Speaker D:And yeah.
Speaker B:Rhymes with orange.
Speaker B:I think they're trying to make him sound like that.
Speaker B:I think that was the band, the big band at the time.
Speaker B:So anyway, so they release an album and then they're like, this is fucking ridiculous.
Speaker B:Like, we can't.
Speaker B:They're, they're.
Speaker B:They're.
Speaker B:They're restricting everything we do.
Speaker B:So they actually paid to get out of their record contract.
Speaker B:So the album they did with an actual major label.
Speaker B:You should look this up, Kevin.
Speaker B:New New Meanies or Blue Meanies.
Speaker C:I know, because Randy was.
Speaker B:Oh, Randy would be one or more of them.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker D:Oh, yeah.
Speaker C:Friends with a couple of them.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Are you serious?
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker B:That's who I'm trying to get on the show for like years.
Speaker C:Oh, I'll speak to all Nick and Hope.
Speaker C:See Ronnie can get your contacts.
Speaker D:I would love put them on the ball tonight.
Speaker D:We're recording the 200th seaside.
Speaker D:No, that just happened.
Speaker D:Or else we're not going Forward with the 200th it.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker B:I love that it's a crime that that band is not like in everyone's mouth like Will Smith and whatever, Chris Rock.
Speaker A:But.
Speaker A:Yeah, I'm on fire.
Speaker A:You take away my pride.
Speaker A:I want stronger, man.
Speaker A:Get stronger.
Speaker A:You put your wing.
Speaker A:Shadows start to call.
Speaker A:When you take away the silence, the shadow and the fire.
Speaker A:In the haste of the unknown why do I embrace the.
Speaker A:Sam, I brought your d. Forget your past.
Speaker A:When you die become real because you're not the only one.
Speaker A:How it feel?
Speaker A:I'm on fire.
Speaker A:Oh, baby, I'm on fire.
Speaker D:Will Smith is in whose mouth?
Speaker D:What's happening?
Speaker D:We, we.
Speaker D:We.
Speaker A:Take your wife's name.
Speaker B:But they should be a band that everybody talks about.
Speaker B:Like when people talk about big Canadian bands, somehow they're not.
Speaker B:But it's because they told the record label, go fuck yourselves.
Speaker B:We're not going to deal with this anymore.
Speaker B:They went independent after they had to pay to get out of their contract.
Speaker B:And then they went and released one album after that that was independently produced.
Speaker B:But they're fantastic.
Speaker B:They're so good.
Speaker B:If you want a good, like blues, fast blues band.
Speaker B:Fantastic.
Speaker B:I'll.
Speaker B:I can send you files anyway.
Speaker B:Corey.
Speaker D:Yeah, do it.
Speaker B:Give me a place.
Speaker B:Send it to.
Speaker B:Then I'll send them to you.
Speaker B:I have them all.
Speaker D:Well, you know how to work the Facebooks.
Speaker D:Just send me a link and I'll download them.
Speaker D:But I did play a song for you a couple shows ago.
Speaker D:Killer Dwarves.
Speaker D:Familiar with them.
Speaker D:Are you ready?
Speaker D:Played that one for you.
Speaker B:Oh, thank you for playing that.
Speaker D:I like that tune a lot.
Speaker B:That band's great.
Speaker B:I gotta get.
Speaker B:So I. I may lean on you guys.
Speaker B:I want to get Daryl back on the show to talk about his new book.
Speaker B:I just thought his new book.
Speaker B:We're gonna try to get him on again.
Speaker B:He was great.
Speaker B:All right, you guys,.
Speaker D:It was great.
Speaker D:I listened to that episode.
Speaker D:He re.
Speaker D:Released it.
Speaker B:Yeah, yeah, he was awesome.
Speaker B:He's like, why did you do our show?
Speaker B:I had nothing better to do.
Speaker B:Was Covid.
Speaker B:That's all it was.
Speaker B:He actually had a free night to record with us.
Speaker B:Right, Todd?
Speaker B:Then when he came through Winnipeg, I said, daryl, it's Sean.
Speaker B:Geek.
Speaker B:Oh, my God.
Speaker D:Sean Geek.
Speaker B:Hey, how you doing?
Speaker B:Nicest guy.
Speaker B:Nicest guy.
Speaker B:But anyway, all right, you guys got.
Speaker D:To go do your show.
Speaker B:Say hi to Randy for me.
Speaker B:Randy doesn't remember who I am, even though I've actually gone out and reached out to him and said, hey, Randy, I like your shit.
Speaker B:I played your shit on our show.
Speaker B:I think I know.
Speaker B:Does he?
Speaker D:Okay.
Speaker C:Oh, yeah.
Speaker D:Randy doesn't remember who Kevin is, so I wouldn't take no.
Speaker C:He just.
Speaker C:Just doesn't like me.
Speaker C:That's true.
Speaker E:That's a difference.
Speaker B:But honestly, I think Randy is like one of the most talented musicians in Canada, period.
Speaker D:You got to see him live.
Speaker D:You got to see him.
Speaker D:Such a good show.
Speaker B:If I can get the kids to be a little bit older and I can do a road trip and actually have a functioning car that I could go and take a road trip to Saskatchewan I like.
Speaker D:Yes.
Speaker D:The central Canadian podcasting convention happens in December in Saskatoon every year, and we record a show.
Speaker D:Three or four guys in a pedo van swimming around Saskatoon, getting stuck everywhere.
Speaker C:Just fucking old.
Speaker B:It's when van actually had sides to them.
Speaker D:The sliding door doesn't open from the inside.
Speaker D:It's just old.
Speaker E:Bring it short.
Speaker C:Just old.
Speaker D:Poor Heath was like, I can't get out.
Speaker D:I don't feel safe.
Speaker B:Well, that's because he had too much to drink.
Speaker D:Yeah, you get a little.
Speaker D:You overindulge on these trips, that's for sure.
Speaker D:Because Kevin doesn't drink anymore, so he gets to DD for us.
Speaker D:So.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker C:Which is a lot of fun hanging over these two drunk idiots.
Speaker D:I don't know how you do it.
Speaker B:I don't know how you do it.
Speaker D:Go to bar.
Speaker D:Go to Mexican restaurants.
Speaker D:Say, do you have anything besides Mexican food?
Speaker C:Besides Mexican food?
Speaker D:That joke never gets old.
Speaker B:So, okay, go pimp your stuff.
Speaker B:Who wants to go first?
Speaker C:Gavin, you can check out Tom Petty Project.
Speaker C:That's my project.
Speaker C:Going through the podcast.
Speaker C:Going through the entire Tom Petty catalog.
Speaker C:Queen Seaside Pod review, a Queen podcast that I do with Randy you talked about.
Speaker C:And then Ultimate Catalog Clash that I do with my good friend Corey Morissette, known in excess.
Speaker B:Sometimes they're not good friends.
Speaker D:No, sometimes we do shows.
Speaker D:We haven't done one in a couple of weeks.
Speaker C:So those are my three shows.
Speaker C:Yep.
Speaker D:Simple Ca, apparently is what you're calling in now.
Speaker D:The CMPU CA shows.
Speaker D:And the podcast will rock season six.
Speaker D:Oh, Sean, you're going to love this because we're going big deep into Van Halen again.
Speaker D:We're doing a tournament.
Speaker B:I'm supposed to be on one of those episodes.
Speaker D:I know.
Speaker D:You got to be one of.
Speaker D:The.
Speaker D:One of the guest judges.
Speaker B:I want to do it.
Speaker D:That's going to be a lot of fun.
Speaker D:Mark Meyer is coming back.
Speaker D:Not this week, but next.
Speaker B:What?
Speaker B:From his big breaking news.
Speaker D:Yes, I'm breaking it right here.
Speaker E:Yeah.
Speaker B:Awesome.
Speaker D:Yeah, he's had enough of me bastardizing Kill Switch Engage and complaining about it.
Speaker B:That he's playing every song on his wheel.
Speaker D:No, I like some of them, but Kill Switch Engage.
Speaker D:I don't get it, man.
Speaker D:That's just noise.
Speaker D:They were in Saskatoon this past weekend.
Speaker D:Did you know that, Kevin?
Speaker C:Yeah, I don't get that whole show.
Speaker C:Do you think I want to be shouted out?
Speaker C:Let's go wipe my on the curtains.
Speaker C:There's just no need for it.
Speaker C:I don't.
Speaker D:You should say again.
Speaker D:Actually, it's happened more than once, but,.
Speaker B:Kevin,.
Speaker D:Ultimate Catalog Clash, Mixtapes from Hell, Cinderella.
Speaker D:We're bringing on a Cinderella tribute band this week called Night Songs.
Speaker B:Are you serious?
Speaker C:Oh, you got him.
Speaker D:Four members of Night Songs are going to be on the next episode?
Speaker D:Yep.
Speaker B:Oh, my God.
Speaker B:So did.
Speaker B:Did.
Speaker B:Did.
Speaker B:Sorry.
Speaker B:Did Dan cream his panties or.
Speaker D:No, Dan had to give a lot of handies out to make sure that they all came on the show, so his wrist is tired.
Speaker B:But, you know, shaking her head like fucking Dan again.
Speaker D:On the last show, we said Peg's got to get a haircut.
Speaker D:Like the girl in the Nobody's full video.
Speaker D:Yeah, she's got good hair.
Speaker B:Stylist.
Speaker B:Apparently, so.
Speaker D:Apparently, yeah.
Speaker D:Dan knows her.
Speaker D:They know every.
Speaker D:It's like cheers over there.
Speaker D:Everybody knows your name, apparently.
Speaker D:But what else?
Speaker D:Oh, power.
Speaker D:Positive geeking.
Speaker D:I gotta edit this thing.
Speaker D:But Kevin Brown joined me for an episode where we talked about the Odyssey.
Speaker D:First time I talked about a current movie.
Speaker D:I would ask you to come on and talk about Fantastic Four, but once we cover all the positive things we're gonna have, like, that's only gonna take, like, five minutes.
Speaker B:Do you want.
Speaker B:Do you want to do the Christian Slater pump up the volume or not?
Speaker B:Is that.
Speaker B:Is that a good.
Speaker D:You don't have to re.
Speaker D:Watch it.
Speaker D:Actually, I haven't seen it in, like 30 years.
Speaker B:Or Encino Man.
Speaker B:Either one.
Speaker B:I'll do either one.
Speaker D:Well, Encino man is definitely not a good movie, but it's a guilty pleasure movie.
Speaker B:It's a guilty pleasure movie.
Speaker B:Yeah, I like.
Speaker D:I could talk about that one.
Speaker B:I like squeezing.
Speaker D:Who doesn't like squeezing the juice?
Speaker D:Exactly.
Speaker D:That'll be the tagline for that one.
Speaker D:And the WKRP show is gonna be dropping in October.
Speaker D:October 9th.
Speaker D:The first episode drops.
Speaker D:So lots happening.
Speaker D:And I'm hosting the seaside pod review 200th, which I'm hoping to make a huge mess of in just.
Speaker B:I hope so.
Speaker D:It's not gonna be good.
Speaker E:They're.
Speaker D:They're never gonna ask me again.
Speaker B:Okay, Todd, where can you find us?
Speaker B:Todd?
Speaker B:Because I'm too lazy to do the whole thing.
Speaker E:You can find us at seanmcginnity.ca that's S E A N M C G I N I T Y CA and.
Speaker D:Remember, a flute is just a pipe.
Speaker B:I love it.
Speaker B:Join the Patreon 5, 10, 25.
Speaker B:There's a $75 tier for the.
Speaker D:I saw there was a $500 one.
Speaker D:What's that?
Speaker D:Sean's gonna come to your house and disrobe and mow your lawn.
Speaker D:What's happening?
Speaker B:I'm gonna vacuum your lawn.
Speaker B:Actually, it's my new service I'm offering.
Speaker B:I can vacuum lawns.
Speaker B:Mighty K will get that.
Speaker E:The Mighty K. Yes.
Speaker D:Yes.
Speaker B:She vacuums her lawn.
Speaker B:What does that even mean?
Speaker B:I don't know.
Speaker D:For a thousand dollars, Todd will tell you where he works and why you should be very afraid if you live in Canada.
Speaker B:And I will give you the.
Speaker B:The missile codes.
Speaker D:Canada's new.
Speaker E:The launch codes.
Speaker E:Yeah.
Speaker D:I can't get the parking garage open, but I can annihilate Uzbekistan if I wanted to.
Speaker B:Canada.
Speaker B:You know what the code is, right?
Speaker B:1, 2, 3, 4.
Speaker D:No, it's 99 for Gretzky and 66 for Lemieux.
Speaker B:69 For Anne Murray.
Speaker D:There you go.
Speaker B:All right, enough of that baloney.
Speaker D:All right.
Speaker D:Okay.
Speaker D:Well, that was the perfect out right there in 69 for Anne Murray.
Speaker D:And then just.
Speaker B:Yeah, there you go.
Speaker D:Bring up the music.
Speaker B:I'll make sure I edit.
Speaker B:I'll stop it right there.
Speaker B:Thank you for listening, and we'll see you next week.
Speaker D:And bye.
Speaker A:Have a good day.
