Episode 599
Tornado Talk and Tribute Tunes: Eddie Van Halen's Legacy
The countdown to 600 is on, and Sean and Todd go back to basics — just the two of them, the old formula, and a deep dive that turns into one of the most thoughtful conversations the show has had in a while.
It starts with real life — sod cutters, Red River gumbo, sewer maintenance gone slightly wrong, and severe weather that hit Manitoba hard. Then Sean reveals something genuinely impressive: he pulled the entire back catalogue of the show into a spreadsheet, tagged every episode by segment type, and even built a working spin wheel inside Excel for the Wheel of Topics segment.
From there the episode turns into a proper Eddie Van Halen tribute deep dive — comparing how various artists have honored Eddie since his passing, debating whether emulating a legend's style is more respectful than finding your own voice, and landing on a clear ranking by the end.
This episode covers:
- Home improvement chaos — sod cutters, Red River gumbo, and building a shed in tight quarters
- Sewer maintenance gone slightly sideways and an inventive defense system involving Saran Wrap and kitty litter
- Severe Manitoba weather — tornado warnings, hail, and flooding memories from years past
- The big data project — Sean catalogued nearly a decade of episodes into a spreadsheet, tagged every segment type, and built a custom spin wheel for the Wheel of Topics in Excel
- A full tribute song breakdown comparing how different artists have honored Eddie Van Halen since his passing, including tracks inspired by his playing style and a tribute by his former Van Halen bandmate David Lee Roth
- A real debate about authenticity in music — whether trying to emulate a legend's exact style serves them better than simply being inspired by them and creating something original
- A side-by-side comparison of two very different tribute approaches, one channeling the spirit of the music and one trying to replicate technique directly
- Reflections on the Rush farewell concert footage, Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee, drummer Anika Nilles stepping into Neil Peart's role, and the emotional weight of watching a band's legacy carry forward
- A recommendation of a deeply researched music biography that reframes how the band's early influences shaped their sound
- A preview of new original music coming for episode 600, including a tribute piece dedicated to longtime patron and podcaster Kevin Brown
- Pass or Go and Versus segments return — Incorrect Headlines saved for the 600th episode
- Patron shoutouts and the full breakdown of all four Patreon tiers, including the new $75 tier from The Trailer Behind the Metal Shoppe

And we are recording.
Speaker A:Let's hit the theme song.
Speaker B:Hit it.
Speaker A:Welcome to the Sean Sean Geek, Sean Geek and Fast Set podcast.
Speaker A:Yeah, you got it, folks.
Speaker A:It's me again with a little aptitude for all you out here in white bread land.
Speaker A:Let's see, we're on 92 FM land.
Speaker A:It feels like a nice, clean little band so far, no one else is using it.
Speaker A:Price is right, Crusty Dave.
Speaker A:This is bigger than friendship.
Speaker B:This is what you call cosmic.
Speaker A:The Buddhists call it, let me see.
Speaker A:Reincarnation.
Speaker B:Hey, wait a minute.
Speaker A:Since when is Pismo beach inside a cave, I wonder.
Speaker A:You know, I just think we should have turned left at Albuquerque and then maybe a right turn at La.
Speaker C:Shush.
Speaker C:Hush.
Speaker C:Please.
Speaker A:Welcome to the Fast Fret and Shone Geek podcast cast.
Speaker A:How's it going, bro?
Speaker B:Oh, not bad.
Speaker B:Yourself?
Speaker A:Not too bad.
Speaker A:We're doing episode 599 right now.
Speaker B:Oh, wow.
Speaker A:5.99.
Speaker A:Sounds like a discount sale at Wall at.
Speaker A:At Zellers.
Speaker B:Wow.
Speaker B:So we've done 99 since the.
Speaker B:The 500th episode.
Speaker B:Yep.
Speaker C:Wow.
Speaker A:It just seemed like not too.
Speaker B:Wow.
Speaker B:That was like a month ago, isn't it?
Speaker A:No, feels like months.
Speaker A:It kind of.
Speaker A:It kind of goes fast.
Speaker B:Holy crap.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:I was in the midst of trying to figure out how to put a shed in the backyard.
Speaker B:So it's been back and forth because I've got a carport and then the fence, and there's only about 12, 13ft or so.
Speaker B:So I wanted to put an 8 by 10, but it's only about a foot on each side, so I have to go 8 by 10 and the 10 I have to go lengthwise.
Speaker B:So I rented a sod cutter last weekend.
Speaker A:A sod cutter?
Speaker A:What's a sod cutter?
Speaker B:Sod cutter.
Speaker B:So basically it's.
Speaker B:You know, when you.
Speaker B:Do you remember when we first moved here and we had all that sod?
Speaker B:We had the roll out and it was the very first time we'd ever.
Speaker A:Todd, you're taking me back.
Speaker B:We'd ever walked on gumbo.
Speaker A:That was.
Speaker B:Yeah, because we're used to, you know, New Brunswick, you know, Pei, like red soil.
Speaker B:Like just soil here is like the bottom of the lake.
Speaker B:Gumbo.
Speaker B:Like as soon as.
Speaker B:Like elevator shoes.
Speaker B:As soon as you had your foot on it, it was wet.
Speaker B:It just kept piling up and piling up, and you almost twist your ankle because you had so much stuff underneath.
Speaker B:So the sod cutter basically cuts the sod to make those rolls.
Speaker A:Okay, can you take a step back, though?
Speaker A:Can you explain Gumbo.
Speaker B:Gumbo.
Speaker B:Well, they call it red river something.
Speaker B:Gumbo.
Speaker B:It's.
Speaker B:Yeah, I guess it used to be the.
Speaker B:We used to be in a.
Speaker B:Bottom of a lake bed or something or other.
Speaker A:Yep.
Speaker B:And you know, when you put your, your, your feet in water of a lake or whatever, it gets mushy and it squeezes it between your toes.
Speaker B:Well, that's the kind of clay or whatever that we have here.
Speaker B:So when it's dry, it's as hard as a rock, but when it's wet, it's very slippery, slick and it kind of piles up on, on you as you're walking through it.
Speaker A:So you literally can gain like feet, like several feet under your feet.
Speaker B:Well, grow in height anyways, a couple inches until you, you know, and it's the kind that you have to kind of, you know, go to the side of the sidewalk or the abutment and scrape your foot to try and get it off.
Speaker A:So we've never seen stuff like that.
Speaker A:We had dirt where we came from.
Speaker B:Yeah, it was just dirt.
Speaker B:Dirt, yeah.
Speaker B:So in order to.
Speaker B:And because we have this type of soil, it's not just a matter of putting footings down, you know, compact a little bit of gravel underneath or three quarter down or something and then put a block on it.
Speaker B:You have to have like 4 to 6 inches almost of gravel so that it doesn't sink.
Speaker B:So it's.
Speaker B:So I decided to rent the side cutter from Home Depot because that day it looks like it was going to rain, but it hadn't rained yet.
Speaker B:It was just kind of, kind of off and on, just spitting a little bit.
Speaker B:So I guess whoever had rented it previously said, no, I'm not going to rent it today.
Speaker B:So I was lucky enough to get it, came home, you know, and basically it's just a blade.
Speaker B:So once you, once you start it, one of the handles gets the blade running right.
Speaker B:So it just, it bounces back and forth type of thing, like in a shaking motion almost.
Speaker B:No, no, it's gas powered.
Speaker A:Oh, gas power.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:So this little four wheel thing with a motor on top and then the blade at the bottom.
Speaker B:So then you push the other lever and then it walks like it's motorized and pulls you along.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:So it pulls you along while it's chopping the, the grass.
Speaker B:So it just makes grooves of grass.
Speaker B:So I just did all the grooves and because the grass that I have in the backyard, it's kind of patchy.
Speaker B:So it's not like a really nice roll of grass.
Speaker B:Like it was just kind of Chunks.
Speaker B:That's what it was.
Speaker B:So I backed the truck up, threw all that stuff in it.
Speaker B:Plus, it was wet, so it was really like.
Speaker B:It was.
Speaker B:It says that it's easier to cut the sod when it's wet.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker B:And it was.
Speaker B:It cut through like butter, like, no problem.
Speaker A:Are you serious?
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:So when I was done.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:So I ended up bringing it back.
Speaker B:I put all the sod in the back of the truck.
Speaker B:We have a recycle area not close.
Speaker B:Not that far from here on Pacific.
Speaker A:Yeah, I know the one.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:So.
Speaker B:And they'll.
Speaker B:They'll take branches, they take sod, dirt, whatever.
Speaker B:So I just went there, took it out of the back.
Speaker B:So I expended so much energy that day, and it was cold, so I had a jacket on.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker B:Yeah, that was the cooler day, which is great because I like, I don't mind working on a cool day.
Speaker B:Born as hot.
Speaker B:It's just like, you know, you do, you know, a couple of shovels of this, and then you got to stop and take a breath with this.
Speaker B:Was.
Speaker B:Was good.
Speaker B:So I was toast on Sunday.
Speaker B:That was.
Speaker B:It was like.
Speaker B:Okay, that's rest day.
Speaker A:Oh, no kidding.
Speaker B:Yeah, my Fitbit gave me.
Speaker A:Before you go further.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker B:I'm a big guy.
Speaker A:That's you.
Speaker A:That was you.
Speaker A:Okay, well, hang on a second here.
Speaker A:We haven't talked in a while.
Speaker A:So you got a Fitbit now?
Speaker B:Yeah, I got a Fitbit.
Speaker A:Well, which, like, which one did you get?
Speaker B:I think it's probably the same one that you have.
Speaker A:It's just like, slimmer.
Speaker B:Yeah, Very, very slim.
Speaker B:Very slim.
Speaker A:And then you just, like, you.
Speaker A:You swipe right or swipe left on there and swipe up and swipe down like that.
Speaker B:Yeah, I. I haven't really figured out that part so much.
Speaker B:It's just kind of the app, the.
Speaker B:The health app, I guess.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Because it's not Fitbit anymore.
Speaker A:It's now Google Health.
Speaker B:Oh, okay.
Speaker A:Because Fitbit got bought by Google and now they're converting everything over from Fitbit to Google Health.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker A:Because, hey, Google doesn't own enough.
Speaker B:No kidding.
Speaker B:Yeah, it's.
Speaker B:Oh, the history.
Speaker A:Oh, my phone.
Speaker A:My phone did not like that.
Speaker B:Dude, what's that?
Speaker A:Could you said.
Speaker A:My phone just said.
Speaker A:Could you clarify what you mean by that?
Speaker B:When was June 13th?
Speaker A:That was like three days ago.
Speaker B:13Th was Saturday, right?
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Okay, so June 13th says you finished the week with three times your usual intensity.
Speaker B:You moved from slow, groggy start on Monday to your highest effort days of the month on Friday and Saturday, the volume you bank 626 weekly cardio points, crushing your goal of 210.
Speaker C:Wow.
Speaker B:Most of that came from the high resistance.
Speaker A:Did you set your goal or you just using whatever default is?
Speaker B:Just whatever default.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:Said you put in over.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:The last 48 hours proved you could maintain a 36 minute walking pace.
Speaker B:See, so you're at one person.
Speaker A:You're at what percentage of your weekly?
Speaker B:Oh, it was.
Speaker A:Because it says weekly cardio or weekly.
Speaker B:Oh, no, sorry.
Speaker B:It says your volume.
Speaker B:The volume you bank 626 weekly cardio points.
Speaker A:Oh, okay.
Speaker B:It says crushing your goal of 210, but of 210.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:Your goal is 210.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:So it said here your heart, your heart is still working double time.
Speaker B:Even a short walk felt like a workout after that morning bike session.
Speaker A:Did it give you what, what was your.
Speaker A:Does it say your high point for your BPMs or anything?
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker B:So it says pushing into the vigorous zone for the full 15 minutes shows your body hasn't had a chance to reset yet.
Speaker B:High cost averaging 142 bpm for a casual pace is a clear sign.
Speaker B:Your 26 readiness score is hitting home accumulated strain.
Speaker B:You've already banked a cardio load of 59 today between the bike and the walk.
Speaker B:Since you're clearly running hot, are you able to keep things low key for the rest of the Saturday?
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:And it's asking me that.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:So.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:So okay, on, on, on Sunday, Sylvia and I did gardening like all, like all morning long, like for a long period.
Speaker A:And it was.
Speaker A:Gardening is not like high cardio or anything, but you get steps for doing it.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker A:You get your steps.
Speaker A:You get your, you get.
Speaker A:Because ideally at our age, you don't want to be at your top cardio.
Speaker A:There's.
Speaker A:It gives you a range.
Speaker A:Like My range is 70.
Speaker A:My BPMs on Sunday were between 73.
Speaker A:That's kind of my, my low at 236.
Speaker A:But I mean there was some vigorous activity there too.
Speaker A:But so my, my week so far, I'm at 109% of my weekly cardio.
Speaker B:Oh, well, you're good.
Speaker A:Well, I did, I did a work.
Speaker B:So you've done it all.
Speaker A:Yeah, I did my.
Speaker A:I, I did so Sunday because it starts on Sunday runs to Saturday.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:So I like, I was almost all the way through on like in one day.
Speaker A:I did almost my entire week.
Speaker B:Huh.
Speaker A:And I had like 20,000 steps yesterday or whatever the heck it was.
Speaker B:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker B:It tells me what my Sleep is like, if it's a. Oh, you got a sleep score of 87 or.
Speaker B:Yeah, whatever, which is, you know, and then it shows your readiness.
Speaker B:So I don't know if it says we were watching the UFC fight and it finished.
Speaker B:I think I, I went to bed.
Speaker B:I think the last time I looked up.
Speaker A:Oh, I thought you're rating your BPMs during the fight.
Speaker B:Well, it may have.
Speaker B:It may have elevated.
Speaker B: ,: Speaker B:Last time I looked at the clock, it was 1 next morning.
Speaker B:It said.
Speaker B:Yeah, it said, you way too late.
Speaker A:You did that.
Speaker B:Way too late.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:And you're going to be grogginess.
Speaker B:You're ready.
Speaker B:Like, radiance was like a 36.
Speaker B:I don't know.
Speaker B:It wasn't.
Speaker B:Wasn't very good.
Speaker B:So.
Speaker B:But it's.
Speaker B:It's pretty cool how it kind of calculates everything, whether it's accurate or not.
Speaker B:I guess it's only as accurate as, you know, if I'm telling it what I'm doing, but if it doesn't, you know, when you're shoveling, it's.
Speaker B:It's vigorous, but you're not running.
Speaker B:Like, it's not a.
Speaker B:The Fitbit's not going to take.
Speaker B:But I'm.
Speaker B:But it's monitoring my heart rate, so obviously it's like, oh, your heart rate's quite high.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:It's kind of neat because I actually, what I started doing because when I, when I was working out, like, kind of a little more hardcore, like I was started reading and saying, well, you don't want to be in the extreme or the intense zone for too long.
Speaker A:You don't really want to go above this level and that sort of stuff.
Speaker A:So I was actually.
Speaker A:Because I'd be doing like.
Speaker A:Like when we got a bunch of gravel and I had to spread the gravel out and move it from the front to the backyard and load after load after load, all that sort of stuff, I was paying attention to my heart rate and my, My watch would buzz and going, you're doing vigorous.
Speaker A:You're doing more than vigorous or whatever.
Speaker A:It's like you need to slow down.
Speaker A:So.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker B:Did you set up alarms to tell.
Speaker A:You it automatically from your phone?
Speaker A:It automatically does.
Speaker A:It'll.
Speaker A:When you're working out, it'll auto register to say, hey, you're doing moderate activity or you're doing vigorous activity.
Speaker A:Are you doing.
Speaker A:There's one above vigorous?
Speaker A:I think so it was telling me, you know, slow the down sort of thing.
Speaker B:Maybe I just didn't Notice.
Speaker B:But I mean, growing up, I mean, you do, you, you do what you do.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:You don't really pay attention to any of that.
Speaker B:It's just like.
Speaker A:But you know, there's a lot, you know, people were getting heart attacks, it wasn't unusual and that sort of stuff.
Speaker A:So I kind of monitor what I do and I try to stay within.
Speaker A:Moderate to vigorous, modest.
Speaker A:Moderates.
Speaker A:Moderate to vigorous.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker A:Like when I'm on the treadmill, like I could try to get like if I do a 3.2 on the treadmill, it'll get me to vigorous.
Speaker A:Or if I do 3.4 or whatever.
Speaker A:Boy, this is engaging conversation for 599, let me tell you.
Speaker B:Yeah, so I'm, I was looking at different things on YouTube and there's different people.
Speaker B:I wanted, I wanted someone from Canada, close to here, who was showing how to build a shed base for this type of.
Speaker A:No, wait, you're building the shed.
Speaker B:Well, or you're building the.
Speaker B:I'm building the base.
Speaker B:Oh.
Speaker B:But the thing, but the thing is that, I mean, and the one at the, the shed at Costco is on sale, but the thing is, is that the door is on the wide side of it or it needs to be on the narrow side, which is a whole different one.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:So perhaps maybe at the end of the year the other ones will.
Speaker B:Might go on sale.
Speaker B:They may not.
Speaker B:And then I looked online, it says, it said that they would deliver the one that I wanted and they could deliver it, you know, within a couple weeks or whatever.
Speaker B:And then today I looked and says, no, delivery's not available.
Speaker B:So it's like, what if I just.
Speaker B:Because I built a carport myself, I figured, well, maybe I can do a shed.
Speaker B:I don't know.
Speaker B:Let's take a look.
Speaker B:So I took a look at different.
Speaker B:And the person who did the base, he's from Regina.
Speaker B:So I was like, okay, well you're close to here.
Speaker B:And he seemed to think that the soil was pretty close.
Speaker B:So it's like, okay, well, I looked at his plans and it seemed legit.
Speaker B:I saw him build the base.
Speaker B:I saw him build the actual shed.
Speaker B:I don't know, I might try it.
Speaker B:I was looking down to Wall street here.
Speaker B:I don't know if we talked about this last time.
Speaker B:And there's, there's some pre built ones.
Speaker A:Oh.
Speaker B:And I was looking at them and, and I was looking at them and I was like, okay, this would work.
Speaker B:It's on skids.
Speaker B:Like they're like, you know, six by six or whatever.
Speaker B:Three of them on the bottom of the unit.
Speaker B:So they just basically sit on your yard, you put them on blocks or whatever you want.
Speaker B:But I mean, that, that doesn't sink as much.
Speaker B:So I was inquiring about it and I'm thinking, well, how would I get it in the backyard?
Speaker B:I'd have to actually take the carport apart.
Speaker B:And I'm like, let me rethink this.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:So I was like, okay.
Speaker B:And then I was like, well, how much would it cost if they built one here?
Speaker B:Because their prices were like sale prices that they had.
Speaker B:They were trying to get rid of some of them.
Speaker A:Right, okay.
Speaker B:Well, it's like two or three times the price almost if they were to have someone come here and build it.
Speaker B:So it's like, no, I'm good.
Speaker B:I was looking at doors for the house.
Speaker B:It was like a couple thousand dollars per door.
Speaker B:I was like, holy Christ, is it that expensive?
Speaker A:Yeah, it is.
Speaker B:Have doors put in.
Speaker B:Yep.
Speaker B:So it's like, well, I can't do everything because I'd like to do the basement too, because we don't have a bathroom down there.
Speaker B:So I just wanted to get someone to come out and rough in the plumbing.
Speaker B:So it was like, well, how much is that going to cost?
Speaker B:So now it's like, okay, well, first I'm going to do the, the garage part.
Speaker B:At least the base.
Speaker B:I might try my hand at making it to save some money and then we'll see after that.
Speaker B:So being that the weather is nice, the outside work should be done.
Speaker B:The inside can be done at any time.
Speaker B:So.
Speaker A:Yeah, that's true.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:Take advantage of the good weather.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:Todd, you and I are Irish.
Speaker B:French.
Speaker C:Right.
Speaker A:So when I did the gardening on Sunday, maybe I forgot clovers.
Speaker A:What's that?
Speaker B:Found some four leaf clovers.
Speaker A:No, I. I burnt real bad.
Speaker B:Oh.
Speaker A:And it's funny because brings out the.
Speaker B:White in your beard.
Speaker A:Yeah, true, but I.
Speaker A:But I burnt one.
Speaker A:Oh, it's still sore.
Speaker A:The.
Speaker A:My back shoulder, I had on like a tank top and it burnt like the back shoulder just on one side, though.
Speaker A:And the one corner, back corner of my head.
Speaker A:And now I was trying to explain this to Sylvie because Sylvie's Mediterranean.
Speaker A:She doesn't burn like we burn.
Speaker A:It's not the same thing.
Speaker A:She gets a little bit red and then it turns like just dark brown.
Speaker B:Like, like, you know, Uncle Ronnie.
Speaker A:Yeah, yeah, Mike, like, yeah, them, they could be in the sun, no protection and.
Speaker A:Yeah, never an issue.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:Yeah, but.
Speaker A:So I'm burning and I'm like.
Speaker A:And I Was trying to explain this to Sylvia, and she didn't quite understand, but I said, like, I've got.
Speaker A:Now I'm curious, if you know what I mean.
Speaker A:So I said, my.
Speaker A:My back hurts so bad, I'm getting waves of goof.
Speaker A:Goosebumps over the burn area.
Speaker A:So it's like.
Speaker A:It gets, like, it's like it gets cold and it feels like a breeze going over and it's.
Speaker A:And it's like the goosebumps move, like.
Speaker B:Well, usually.
Speaker B:Usually that's a sign of heat stroke, isn't it?
Speaker A:I think so.
Speaker B:Or someone.
Speaker A:And then I was feeling nauseous then.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:Yeah, like, kind of headache, but not nauseous to puke.
Speaker A:Just did, like, I didn't feel good.
Speaker A:So then I lied down for an hour, went to bed early.
Speaker B:And it feels like leather.
Speaker B:Like your back.
Speaker B:Like you'll.
Speaker B:You'll.
Speaker B:You'll crunch it up.
Speaker B:It feels like wrinkles.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:And the wrinkles, it's almost like a.
Speaker A:Looks like that girl that I used to see at the Burger King.
Speaker A:He's coming.
Speaker C:So.
Speaker B:Transcona Cougar.
Speaker A:Transcona Cougar.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:It's.
Speaker B:It's like having material really, really high in starch.
Speaker A:It's like, oh, my God.
Speaker A:So it's just like, I wasn't sure if I was going to go to work yesterday or not.
Speaker C:I'm like.
Speaker A:Like, I don't know.
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:And then.
Speaker A:But I now was.
Speaker A:I thought about calling and, like, I don't feel good.
Speaker A:Like, Sunday, I didn't feel good.
Speaker A:I'm like, if I feel like this tomorrow, I'm not gonna go to work.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:Like, I've got.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:I had a notice in our mailbox saying that today, tomorrow, and the next day they're doing sewer cleaning.
Speaker B:So they said to put the plugs on the sink, close the.
Speaker B:Your toilet seat, take all your bath mats and stuff out of the bathroom, put a, you know, put a towel around the toilet type of thing.
Speaker A:There might be stuff coming out.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:So this morning I had the roll of Costco Saran Wrap.
Speaker B:I Saran Wrap the sink.
Speaker A:Did you really?
Speaker B:I Saran Wrapped the toilet.
Speaker A:Well, fuck, why not?
Speaker A:That's actually a great idea.
Speaker B:And then I put.
Speaker B:I had this big.
Speaker B:Oh, what's it made out of?
Speaker B:Like a heavy, heavy type of Corningware or something.
Speaker B:Anyway, in the sink.
Speaker B:So I put the stopper on the sink, put that on top.
Speaker B:Went downstairs, said, somebody putting Ziploc bag or a bag or something in the floor drain.
Speaker B:So I put a bag underneath the hole cover.
Speaker B:I put a bag on top of the hole cover.
Speaker B:I've got a mat that the cat litter goes on to.
Speaker B:So I put the mat on top of that.
Speaker B:I put the.
Speaker B:The box of kitty litter on top of that.
Speaker B:And then I had a case of Jevix, and I put that on there too, just in case something were to want to come up.
Speaker B:So when we got a home and I.
Speaker B:My sense of smell.
Speaker B:I don't have any.
Speaker A:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker B:So.
Speaker A:So you wouldn't know.
Speaker B:Sewer gas.
Speaker B:I don't.
Speaker B:Who knows?
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:So as soon as you walk in, Donna says, oh, she went into the bathroom.
Speaker B:Really just almost gagging and.
Speaker A:Because the reason they're doing this too, is we had all that.
Speaker A:So much rain.
Speaker A:There's sewer back.
Speaker A:Sewer backing up in certain places.
Speaker A:Sup pumps backing up.
Speaker A:They're.
Speaker A:They're actually sandbagging north of the city there.
Speaker A:Near Stonewall.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:Didn't a bunch of sewage get into the.
Speaker B:Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker A:It's like.
Speaker B:I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but.
Speaker B:But yeah.
Speaker B:So we came in and, yeah, the sewer smell in the bathroom was just horrendous.
Speaker B:So I flushed the toilet to make sure the trap had water in it.
Speaker B:Did the same with the tub, did the same with the sink.
Speaker B:But the Saran Wrap that was on the toilet was wet underneath.
Speaker B:So obviously it did splash up and it kind of got around the sides, and the towel that was around the toilet kind of got hit.
Speaker A:But not like, not tons.
Speaker A:Just a little bit.
Speaker B:Just a little bit.
Speaker B:So that wasn't bad.
Speaker B:Now there's still two more days.
Speaker B:What they're gonna do in the next two days, I don't know, but I just have to make sure that it's all covered up again.
Speaker B:Oh, my God.
Speaker A:This is.
Speaker A:This is, like, not been good.
Speaker A:The amount of rain with tornado warnings.
Speaker A:And here's the thing.
Speaker B:Hail.
Speaker B:Oh, yeah.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:So did you, like.
Speaker A:Have you checked to see, like, did any tornadoes drop down?
Speaker A:Did you look into any of that stuff?
Speaker B:Yeah, there was one that was touched down not.
Speaker B:Not far from here in the airport.
Speaker A:Did they confirm?
Speaker A:Because here's the thing.
Speaker A:I went to Environment Canada or Weather Channel or whatever, and they all said nothing dropped, nothing came down.
Speaker A:But then I looked elsewhere, and it's like.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker A:And they're showing pictures of tornadoes coming down.
Speaker A:Do you think they're not allowed to say that one went down unless, you know, it's like freaking Sasquatch.
Speaker A:We've got footage of Sasquatch.
Speaker A:Are you checking your phone?
Speaker A:Oh, is this video you took?
Speaker A:I can hear the hail.
Speaker B:Yeah, it was.
Speaker B:It was quite the.
Speaker B:It's quite the storm.
Speaker A:Yeah, it was.
Speaker A:It was.
Speaker A:You didn't get water, though.
Speaker B:No, we've.
Speaker B:We've been very fortunate.
Speaker B:We have never, knock on wood, have had any water here.
Speaker B:So when she had the house inspected, when she bought it, the guy said it was solid.
Speaker B:So we've been lucky with no water.
Speaker A:There's a lot of houses in your area that have cracked foundations.
Speaker A:Like, you guys are lucky.
Speaker B:Yes, very lucky.
Speaker B:I mean, there's right on the street where you used to live, just as you're coming onto the street, there's great big dips there.
Speaker B:They've got big cones.
Speaker B:Water's accumulating there.
Speaker B:It's like a lake.
Speaker A:I've pushed.
Speaker A:I've actually had cars stall right in front of my house over there when.
Speaker B:I was on with the water.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Because there was a one rainstorm, I remember, where the water was easily up to, like, the car window, like the.
Speaker A:Like the pat.
Speaker A:Like the driver's window.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker A:But you don't.
Speaker A:It doesn't look that deep.
Speaker A:But there was a dip right in front of our house.
Speaker A:So you'd go up and then you go down.
Speaker A:And when you went down, like, it looked like the water was like.
Speaker A:Like at.
Speaker A:Midway through the tire for height, but that didn't account for that dip.
Speaker A:Once you hit the dip, then it went above your window.
Speaker A:And of course, your nose is dipping as you're driving, so your.
Speaker A:Your complete front of the car is submerged as you hit the dip until you go up.
Speaker A:And then the car would just stall right out.
Speaker A:I remember I. I would.
Speaker A:I'm out there in my.
Speaker A:Not my flippers, but my.
Speaker A:My tongs or whatever, my thongs.
Speaker A:And I'm pushing the car to a lower water point, like, all the time when we had those rainstorms.
Speaker A:And the drain there, it never drained properly there because there's, like, all the roots.
Speaker A:There's a root system inside the sewers.
Speaker A:So the water's.
Speaker A:The water doesn't drain as fast as it can.
Speaker B:Right, Right.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:Crazy.
Speaker A:All right, enough shenanigans, Todd.
Speaker A:Okay, so I've updated.
Speaker A:So we took two weeks off.
Speaker A:I released an episode this week.
Speaker A:I did an on the road episode where I drove.
Speaker A:Sound quality was horrible, of course.
Speaker A:And I ranted about the state of.
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:I don't remember what I did.
Speaker A:State of AI.
Speaker A:And the state of.
Speaker A:I ranted about.
Speaker A:I can't Remember.
Speaker A:Well, you go listen to the episode.
Speaker A:But so I wanted to.
Speaker A:As we're approaching our 600th episode, I kind of.
Speaker A:I did.
Speaker A:I downloaded all the data of every single one of her episodes, threw it into an Excel spreadsheet, and did a lot of formulas, a lot of sorting, because I wanted to see what.
Speaker A:Like, what have we done?
Speaker A:Like, I can't remember.
Speaker A:You know, episode 232.
Speaker A:Like, I don't know what we did.
Speaker A:I don't remember.
Speaker A:Like, do you remember all the guests we've had?
Speaker A:Like, if you had.
Speaker A:If there was a gun to your head, could you list every guest we've had?
Speaker A:Probably not, I can't, no.
Speaker A:But I wanted to have, like, a database of what we've done.
Speaker A:So if we go back and reference stuff.
Speaker A:And I also.
Speaker A:I'm not quite there yet, but I can create playlists of our episodes and I can tag every episode with something so I can say, oh, we played Pass or Go this episode.
Speaker A:Or we did incorrect headlines, which.
Speaker A:We used to do incorrect headlines all the time.
Speaker A:We haven't done that in forever.
Speaker B:Well, sometimes we take a left at Albuquerque and we just forget.
Speaker A:Wait, wait, I gotta play the clip.
Speaker A:Where's my Albuquerque?
Speaker A:Knew I should have made a left.
Speaker B:Tornado.
Speaker C:Mexico.
Speaker A:I like that clip.
Speaker A:I think I did pretty good.
Speaker A:I tried to do the.
Speaker A:The Aussie, he always records, like, in, like, two tracks or maybe more, and he has one where he's, like, really high and he's got one that's really low.
Speaker A:And then the blend is the Aussie sound.
Speaker B:Sound.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker A:Paul Stanley does a similar effect when he.
Speaker A:When he sings.
Speaker A:He'll have a low and a high.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker A:But you did the same thing on this Isn't an Exit on the Dome album.
Speaker A:Do you remember recording that song?
Speaker A:The vocals in that song, we did two vocals, and one was really high like that, and the other one was more middle.
Speaker A:Middle range.
Speaker B:And you blend.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:And you blend them both together in.
Speaker A:That effect is similar to the effect they use on Ozzy and Paul Stanley.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:Well, I think we had.
Speaker B:I think Alex had done a line.
Speaker A:Yep.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:And actually was doing, like, screaming, I think.
Speaker B:Was he.
Speaker B:Was he doing screaming?
Speaker A:Oh, no, no, he was just singing.
Speaker A:Sorry.
Speaker A:I was thinking about when.
Speaker A:Before you joined the band.
Speaker B:And then Oli did his too, so.
Speaker A:Because we did a recording just with Alex before you were in the band and before O was in the band and we recorded.
Speaker A:We recorded, like the.
Speaker A:The A four song demo.
Speaker A:And in the demo.
Speaker A:God, the bass player at the time, I Can't remember his name now.
Speaker A:Really Great.
Speaker A:You met him.
Speaker A:He was in.
Speaker A:Waiting the answer.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker A:Super tattooed guy, big tattoo in his chest and stuff.
Speaker A:He would come in, just scream.
Speaker A:He always.
Speaker A:He sang background vocals all the time, which I loved.
Speaker A:And he would.
Speaker A:He was doing, like, the full screams.
Speaker A:And he was always, you know, urging me, scream, scream.
Speaker A:You need to scream more.
Speaker A:He's kind of showing me how to scream.
Speaker A:So on those demos, we had, like, screams in there.
Speaker A:Just like.
Speaker A:Like the.
Speaker A:Sorry, the guttural.
Speaker A:Like a lot of that stuff.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker A:That didn't cap out.
Speaker C:Eh.
Speaker A:So this actually worked.
Speaker A:I thought it would, like, cut out.
Speaker A:Did it cut out when I went?
Speaker B:No.
Speaker A:Awesome.
Speaker B:Did it do it on the other one?
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Oh, we cut it all the time.
Speaker A:It's just too gutteral.
Speaker A:It doesn't.
Speaker A:It doesn't like it, huh?
Speaker B:Yeah, sweet.
Speaker A:But, yeah, I like the vocal on that.
Speaker A:What the.
Speaker A:Oh, yeah.
Speaker A:I was gonna spin the wheel, so I promised we would spin the wheel.
Speaker A:I also promised some people on our disc, on our dit chord, as a Nicky no good Nick would call it.
Speaker A:I promise we do pass and go every episode, but I also promise we'd spin the wheel more often.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:I don't have the Spin the wheel track ready?
Speaker B:Spinning wheel.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker B:Oh, yeah, right.
Speaker A:You know what?
Speaker A:Fuck, we're just gonna do this.
Speaker B:We're gonna.
Speaker A:Gonna play this.
Speaker A:There we go.
Speaker B:Just play the song.
Speaker A:I'm just gonna play the song.
Speaker A:Here we go.
Speaker C:What goes up?
Speaker A:All right, let's spin the wheel.
Speaker A:I've got a wheel here.
Speaker A:And I actually created a wheel within Excel too.
Speaker A:I'm such a nerd.
Speaker A:I'm wild in the sheets, if you know what I'm saying.
Speaker A:So I created a way to put everything in an Excel sheet.
Speaker A:Spin a wheel.
Speaker A:Because I was using the.
Speaker A:The wheel that Corey uses and all the other shows and stuff, but I found a way to spin a wheel and Excel.
Speaker A:I am a fucking nerd.
Speaker A:Yeah, it's not.
Speaker A:It's.
Speaker A:I'm not that cool.
Speaker B:I think Excel had an option to put a wheel in it.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:So what it is.
Speaker A:And this is.
Speaker A:I'm pretty sure this is what Plot of Thunder uses, because I think they use an Excel sheet, to be honest.
Speaker A:They just use an Excel sheet and they have, like.
Speaker A:Because what they do is they spin out.
Speaker A:They spin a song every episode.
Speaker A:So I'm gonna spin a spinner wheel.
Speaker A:And what I did when I did all that data, that data dump, I did, I broke every single topic on our wheel of topics into One of our types of topics.
Speaker A:Is it a versus?
Speaker A:Is it an incorrect headline?
Speaker A:Is it a rant?
Speaker A:Is it.
Speaker A:So it's a breaking topic.
Speaker B:So it's all separated.
Speaker A:Everything's all separated.
Speaker B:Wow.
Speaker A:Okay, so I'm gonna hit F9.
Speaker B:It's so sexy, the spin button.
Speaker A:But I don't have my glasses on, so I can't see where F9 is.
Speaker A:Let's see, F9 is.
Speaker A:Which one is it?
Speaker B:F8.
Speaker A:F9.
Speaker A:This is ridiculous.
Speaker A:That is the back button.
Speaker A:So the back button.
Speaker A:And I just unplugged my computer.
Speaker A:Look at that.
Speaker A:Plug it back in.
Speaker B:Oh, I've got an F9, but it's not a back button.
Speaker A:Okay, so I have to hit function F9.
Speaker A:Let's see if this works.
Speaker A:I make sure I'm on here.
Speaker A:F9.
Speaker B:Oh, oh.
Speaker A:Topic number 40.
Speaker A:Spinning wheel on Sean's Excel.
Speaker A:He is such a nerd.
Speaker A:Okay, topic 40.
Speaker A:Oh, boy.
Speaker A:Okay, here we go.
Speaker B:Number 40.
Speaker A:Number 40.
Speaker A:Now I guess I could just decide if we're going to use them or not.
Speaker A:So number 40.
Speaker A:I'm not.
Speaker A:I'm not prepared.
Speaker A:I got to prep for this one.
Speaker A:I'm going to do it again.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:Yeah, this is a prep one.
Speaker B:Oh, shit.
Speaker A:I just shut down.
Speaker A:What the fuck?
Speaker A:Sean can't spin the wheel.
Speaker A:Very good.
Speaker A:Number 19.
Speaker B:Number 19.
Speaker A:Here we go.
Speaker B:Bingo.
Speaker C:Oh.
Speaker A:Oh, this one's great.
Speaker A:Okay, we're doing this one.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker B:What is it?
Speaker B:Is it a rant?
Speaker B:Is it a.
Speaker A:It is a breaking topic.
Speaker A:So breaking is when we talk about something that really inspired us, changed our way of thinking.
Speaker A:It could be music, it could be art.
Speaker A:It's generally music.
Speaker A:We're both musicians.
Speaker B:Grand Theft Auto 6.
Speaker A:Grand Theft Auto 6.
Speaker A:That's a breaking for you.
Speaker A:So it's things that broke your way, broke your brain.
Speaker A:You just.
Speaker A:You just.
Speaker A:You can't.
Speaker A:Like Seven Days to Die.
Speaker A:When I discovered Seven Days to Die, the video game, it broke me.
Speaker A:I played obsessively.
Speaker A:I'm currently on day 35 of, like, it counts all your hours of playing the game.
Speaker B:Right?
Speaker A:I have played 39 full days of the game.
Speaker A:Wow, that's way too much.
Speaker A:So this is a breaking rant, and I don't have.
Speaker A:Oh, wait a minute.
Speaker A:Do I have.
Speaker A:I thought you gave me a sound clip to play for breaking.
Speaker B:No, no, I've only given you one.
Speaker A:Okay, all right.
Speaker A:Yeah, we will have clips for all of these.
Speaker B:Trust me.
Speaker B:All right, so here we go.
Speaker A:Topic 19 on the.
Speaker A:On the board.
Speaker A:It's called breaking.
Speaker A:Comparing two songs.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:There are two.
Speaker A:I'm not.
Speaker A:I'm not going to spoil it just yet.
Speaker A:There's two songs that were written to address a specific topic.
Speaker A:Near and dear to you, Yours and my hearts.
Speaker A:Okay,.
Speaker B:We lost Mr. Shittiac.
Speaker A:No, no, no, no.
Speaker A:We lost the greatest guitar player of any generation when Eddie Van Halen passed.
Speaker A:And there was.
Speaker A:Actually.
Speaker A:There was many artists that recorded songs to say goodbye to Eddie.
Speaker A:But I'm gonna.
Speaker A:I want to address two particular songs that were written for Eddie when he passed.
Speaker A:We're going to compare the two, because when Eddie died.
Speaker A:This is why it's a breaking topic.
Speaker A:When Eddie.
Speaker A:Eddie influenced you and I dramatically in a lot of different ways.
Speaker A:How we listen to music when we hear other bands that have solos in it.
Speaker A:Everything gets compared to Eddie.
Speaker A:So Eddie's a breaking.
Speaker A:A breaking point for you and I, for sure.
Speaker B:I heard Sammy made one.
Speaker A:Well, that was the first track.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:So we're gonna listen to it.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:And we're going to also kind of incorporate a pass or go with it.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:And we're going to talk about the song.
Speaker A:You're going to raise your hand.
Speaker B:Well, I don't know if I've heard it, so.
Speaker B:Oh, okay.
Speaker B:See?
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:Well, then I may need to.
Speaker A:You want me to play the.
Speaker A:The video?
Speaker B:Sure.
Speaker A:All right, I'm going to chair share.
Speaker A:Change our share screen here.
Speaker B:So you didn't realize it was a video?
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:So raise your hand.
Speaker A:I'll see if I can see your hand in the smaller screen here.
Speaker A:Maybe I can make this begin to make this bigger.
Speaker A:All right, that's good.
Speaker A:I'm going to play the video.
Speaker A:And raise your hand when you got to stop it.
Speaker A:Want to talk about it?
Speaker A:I don't know if we're going to get through the whole song.
Speaker A:You may not be able to get through the whole song.
Speaker A:You may want to go through the whole song.
Speaker A:That's the whole idea of pass or go.
Speaker A:Pass or go is you raise your hand when you got to say, oh, my God, I got to stop this because I had to talk about it because it's amazing.
Speaker A:Or you raise your hand because you got to stop it because this is the worst piece of shit I've ever heard.
Speaker A:That is the rules of pass or go.
Speaker B:Got it.
Speaker B:Got the rules.
Speaker B:Sorry.
Speaker A:There we go.
Speaker A:I may have to turn it up,.
Speaker C:Sam.
Speaker C:Like it never been bone.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:All right.
Speaker A:What are you gonna say?
Speaker B:That's some different tapping from Satriani.
Speaker B:Red.
Speaker B:Red fretboard.
Speaker B:That.
Speaker B:That's what caught me the first time.
Speaker B:It was like, it gave me an idea.
Speaker B:Hey, why just have the body have all the stripes on it?
Speaker B:Why not have the fingerboard?
Speaker B:No.
Speaker B:Why not?
Speaker B:That's different.
Speaker B:Instead of the head, just headstock.
Speaker B:It's weird he chose that kind of progression because that's not really.
Speaker B:I guess that would be Joe's interpretation of it.
Speaker B:Yeah, like, if I heard that, it would guy like.
Speaker A:Well, yeah, it sounds like Joe, honestly.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:If.
Speaker B:If.
Speaker B:If a record came out and Eddie was the one who played that, he would have played it differently, I think.
Speaker B:Oh, for sure.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Totally agree.
Speaker B:He probably would have used two or three fingers on his right hand to just kind of do stuff instead of just the same.
Speaker A:How many fingers was Joe using?
Speaker A:Was he using one?
Speaker B:I believe it was just one.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker B:But I know Eddie used to use at least two, three times on some.
Speaker B:Some of his stuff, but.
Speaker A:Oh, that's great analysis.
Speaker A:You don't get this on any other podcast, folks.
Speaker B:Okay, you can continue.
Speaker A:Continue.
Speaker B:Okay, sure.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker A:Michael, sounds good.
Speaker C:Come out.
Speaker C:Thank you for the music.
Speaker C:Thank you for the song.
Speaker C:Thank you for visit.
Speaker C:What took so long?
Speaker C:Good time fortune pace hurts you belong.
Speaker C:Thank you.
Speaker B:I don't know if it's just not.
Speaker B:Maybe it's not coming through stair.
Speaker B:There's just something about the song that's just.
Speaker B:There's something that's.
Speaker B:I won't say off.
Speaker B:It almost sounds like a garage band came up with something to say.
Speaker B:Okay, let's do a tribute to somebody.
Speaker A:Like AI or something.
Speaker B:No, just like a regular garage band.
Speaker B:Like, not.
Speaker B:Not professional musicians.
Speaker B:Just, you know, whatever.
Speaker B:Some guys got together and let's, you know, let's play this song.
Speaker B:I don't know.
Speaker B:I'm assuming Joe's going to come up with a solo at some point.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:To try and emulate some of his style, but I guess that's.
Speaker B:That's yet to come.
Speaker A:So could you pick up on some of.
Speaker A:Of the background vocals?
Speaker A:Like Mikey's background vocals?
Speaker B:I believe so.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:It's kind of good.
Speaker A:I kind of.
Speaker A:I kind of.
Speaker A:I kind of dug it.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:Like, when I.
Speaker B:When I hear a tribute, something like that, it would be like in the style of.
Speaker B:But in the actual style, not someone trying to copy it.
Speaker B:I don't know.
Speaker B:Like, the drummer, like, sounds nothing like Alex.
Speaker B:Oh, God, no, he doesn't have the same sound.
Speaker A:It looks like Paul Schaefer, too.
Speaker A:Like, that's kind of a.
Speaker B:Yeah, he went from kicking a shot until you.
Speaker A:Shot it, you know?
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:I mean,.
Speaker A:I don't know, Dave.
Speaker A:I don't Know what you're gonna do with this one?
Speaker B:Yeah, I'm not a fan so far, but if you want to keep.
Speaker A:Keep going, keep going.
Speaker A:I do like that.
Speaker A:Okay, hang on a sec.
Speaker A:I'm gonna take a step back for the solo here, but is he playing an Ev.
Speaker A:An Evh.
Speaker B:No, that's Tanabez.
Speaker A:Oh, okay.
Speaker B:That's his.
Speaker B:That's his own signature guitar.
Speaker B:I think I've seen his gear that he has, and I think he's got one all striped up, But I believe it's still an I.
Speaker A:But it's still an Ibanez.
Speaker B:That's all.
Speaker B:That's all striped.
Speaker B:Okay, let's.
Speaker A:Let's test out this solo here, see.
Speaker B:If it's any good.
Speaker B:So.
Speaker B:Used to the wizard next, I'm sure.
Speaker A:Oh, yeah.
Speaker A:Okay, you ready?
Speaker B:Yep.
Speaker C:It's.
Speaker B:So the solo sounded like Joe trying to play Eddie.
Speaker B:That's.
Speaker B:That's what it's not.
Speaker B:Because there'd be a little flare here and there.
Speaker B:That was.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker B:That's Eddie Ish.
Speaker B:And then all of a sudden, you hear Joe's signature.
Speaker B:You know, harmonics.
Speaker B:I mean, you can do harmonics.
Speaker B:Anybody do harmonics?
Speaker B:But he does it in a certain way.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:He's got suits that has his signature to it.
Speaker A:Yep.
Speaker B:Same with when he's doing hammer ons on the neck.
Speaker B:Definitely.
Speaker B:You know, Satch type stuff.
Speaker B:I don't know.
Speaker B:You can keep going.
Speaker A:All right, I'll keep going.
Speaker C:Time, fortune, things don't feel the same.
Speaker C:I got to thank you.
Speaker C:I got to thank you.
Speaker C:I want to thank you.
Speaker C:Come on.
Speaker A:I've had enough.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:You know, Joe Saccherani looks like Paul Schaefer, too.
Speaker A:We could banish the Paul Schaefers.
Speaker B:True.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:I mean, it.
Speaker B:I. I keep going to Sacha's sound, but he did better in that part.
Speaker B:Sounded.
Speaker B:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker B:Some things you could tell that, you know, was.
Speaker B:Was him his type of style, but most of it was kind of Eddie's thing.
Speaker B:The thing with Eddie was he was a very good.
Speaker B:Because it was only him as the guitar player, he had to play the rhythms and the solo.
Speaker B:So his rhythms were very catchy and juicy, whereas Joe was just kind of slamming some chords, you know, open chords or whatever.
Speaker B:I mean, that's fine.
Speaker B:But Eddie was more articulate.
Speaker B:Not to say that he should have done it the other way.
Speaker B:I mean, it's their song.
Speaker B:They can do what they want.
Speaker B:And the style that they wanted to do it.
Speaker B:Me, if I was as talented as these guys, I wanted to put something out.
Speaker B:I Would have put it down, like, saying, you know what?
Speaker B:If I would have closed my eyes, I would have known the difference.
Speaker B:That's what I would have been striving for.
Speaker B:There's a lot of guys out there that.
Speaker B:That are like that.
Speaker B:I think there's Shreds and there's a couple other guys that I listen to on YouTube and, wow, you close your eyes, you can tell the difference.
Speaker B:And actually, they have all their old albums out and they have that Eddie style to it.
Speaker B:But, I mean, Satch has been around for ages.
Speaker B:He has his own style.
Speaker B:He's been playing for years.
Speaker A:And I like Satch.
Speaker A:I really like his.
Speaker A:Like, yeah, he's got a good blues in his playing.
Speaker B:And, you know, it's a different.
Speaker B:Different.
Speaker B:So it's a different type of music.
Speaker A:If this were a pass or go.
Speaker A:We'll assume this is a pass or.
Speaker B:I would.
Speaker B:I would pass.
Speaker A:I would pass to you.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:You know what?
Speaker A:I appreciate the sentiment, sure.
Speaker A:But Satriani is so good.
Speaker A:But to be copying or copying Eddie or trying to copy Eddie, it doesn't sound natural.
Speaker A:Satriani sounds like Satriani, but he doesn't even sound really like Satriani here.
Speaker A:He sounds like a muted version of Satriani.
Speaker A:He doesn't even sound like himself.
Speaker A:And I think I would have much more appreciated Satch just going off, you know, instead of like, okay, I need to do this.
Speaker A:I need to do this tapping here.
Speaker A:It's almost like, okay, I'm gonna use these tricks.
Speaker B:Trick.
Speaker A:This trick from this song and this trick from that song.
Speaker A:It just.
Speaker A:It was trying too hard.
Speaker A:Instead of just writing a song about being inspired by Eddie, they're trying too hard to sound like Eddie.
Speaker B:Like, the.
Speaker B:The.
Speaker B:The scale structure of both of these players is totally different.
Speaker B:I mean, one's more bluesish.
Speaker B:Mine's more like a Phrygian.
Speaker B:Like, just.
Speaker B:There's just.
Speaker B:You know, you get the.
Speaker B:The major players, which is kind of happy kind of thing.
Speaker B:You have the minor players, which are more of a sad type of scales.
Speaker B:You've got all these diminished and all these fandangled.
Speaker B:You know, I could never.
Speaker B:I'd love to be able to know how to play all these things.
Speaker B:But.
Speaker B:But, yeah, it's just a different.
Speaker B:Different thing.
Speaker B:That'd be like saying, you know, Malmsteen trying to play jazz or so.
Speaker B:It's just a different.
Speaker B:He would do it in his own way where it would sound.
Speaker A:I don't.
Speaker A:I don't think Yngwie would cop.
Speaker A:I think Yngwie would still selling yngwie, you know, I think he would still do his thing.
Speaker A:Like when he.
Speaker A:He's.
Speaker A:He loves Richie Blackmore, for example.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:But when he's playing Richie Blackmore, he still sounds like Yngwie Malmsteen.
Speaker A:He doesn't sound like he's copying or he loves Hendrix.
Speaker A:He doesn't sound like he's copying Hendrix.
Speaker A:It doesn't sound like he's copying Richie Blackmore.
Speaker A:He sounds.
Speaker A:Still sounds like InkveyJay Malmsteen.
Speaker A:All right, sorry.
Speaker A:Yngvj.
Speaker A:Fucking Momstein.
Speaker A:Sorry.
Speaker A:Correct.
Speaker A:I've gotta say it, right?
Speaker A:But, you know, I think.
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:This just sounded like phoned in,.
Speaker C:You.
Speaker B:Know, that's what I say.
Speaker B:It's like a garage band that came together.
Speaker B:Oh, let's make a tribute to Eddie.
Speaker B:And they did their own thing.
Speaker B:I was like, well, it kind of sounds.
Speaker B:I don't want to say half ass because it's.
Speaker B:I mean, it was a well done song.
Speaker B:It's just.
Speaker B:It.
Speaker B:It doesn't.
Speaker B:It's not a catchy tune.
Speaker B:Right, right.
Speaker B:Like, it's not like one of those things.
Speaker B:Oh, we got to put this on.
Speaker B:We have to put this as the number one song on the album.
Speaker A:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker B:Because it's so catchy.
Speaker A:And he leads his concerts with this song.
Speaker A:He's doing a residency and he's leading with this song.
Speaker A:It's like.
Speaker B:So.
Speaker B:So who did the other song?
Speaker A:Okay, you ready to hear the other song?
Speaker B:I'm ready to hear the other song.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:I. I wasn't even gonna play the rest of this.
Speaker A:I. I didn't.
Speaker B:I didn't know there was a second song.
Speaker A:Well, there's a second song.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:Now this song.
Speaker A:So this was Sammy.
Speaker A:So Sammy was the second singer in Van Halen.
Speaker A: You know, from: Speaker B:Not, you know, oh, you ate one too.
Speaker A:And yeah, like for.
Speaker B:On.
Speaker B:For Uncarnal, for Unlawful Carnival knowledge.
Speaker A:They did some good albums and there's some really good songs on some of those albums.
Speaker A:But it's a.
Speaker A:This is my humble opinion.
Speaker A:And people can call me out and call me.
Speaker A:I'm Sam, full of.
Speaker A:But I feel that Sammy being in Van Halen.
Speaker A:Van Halen elevated Sammy to a better songwriting standard than what he was known for.
Speaker A:It elevated Sammy.
Speaker A:I think they all grew, but I think it diminished.
Speaker A:Van Halen is my opinion.
Speaker A:5150 Is a very good album, but there's problems with it.
Speaker A:But I think, like I said, I think Sammy went to the next level and Van Halen came down a notch.
Speaker A:But they also did stuff they had never done before, which was pretty cool, which is why I liked it.
Speaker A:Your thoughts?
Speaker B:It was very different album because when you're used to, you know, Van Halen.
Speaker B:One VALENTIN two.
Speaker B:Diver Down, Women, Children, all that stuff, and then you.
Speaker B: And, you know,: Speaker B:So once 84 came out, it was like, okay, when's the next album?
Speaker B:He's like, they broke up.
Speaker A:It's like, freaks sakes.
Speaker B:So then I, you know, the.
Speaker B:The back catalog is what I listened to the whole time.
Speaker B: And all of a sudden, when: Speaker B:And then, okay, very first thing is, like, his squeal comes out.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:That's what we all experienced.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:And then.
Speaker B:And then Hagar started singing.
Speaker B:I was like, okay, good singer.
Speaker A:Real good.
Speaker B:Oh, baby, yeah.
Speaker B:He's like, okay.
Speaker B:So I was like.
Speaker B:And then I'm listening, I'm going, wow.
Speaker B:80S sound.
Speaker B:Sounds a lot different.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Yeah, totally even, like, it wasn't just.
Speaker B:The tone was different.
Speaker B:Everything now he went from mono to stereo.
Speaker A:He was playing that.
Speaker A:Was it a Star Burger?
Speaker B:Well, on some songs.
Speaker B:On some songs, yeah.
Speaker A:But, I mean, I was excited when it came out.
Speaker A:I was like, new Van Allen.
Speaker A:I was excited.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:It didn't matter what it was.
Speaker B:I was doing well.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:And then, you know, for Unlawful Colonel Knowledge came out.
Speaker A:It was really good.
Speaker A:But by the time, like.
Speaker A:Like I was getting down, like, oh, wow.
Speaker A:There's a lot of ballads and they're really schmaltzy.
Speaker A:Like, they're really cheesy lyrics.
Speaker A:And at certain point, I'm bored, you know, I got bored.
Speaker A:Look, Van Halen became boring.
Speaker A:They became a little milk toast, if you will.
Speaker B:But.
Speaker A:Okay, but we gotta listen to the second song.
Speaker A:Okay, so this second song is by Dave.
Speaker A:Dave did a song When?
Speaker A:After he passed.
Speaker A:Yeah, it was Dave and John 5.
Speaker A:John 5, who's currently the guitar player in Motley Crue, previously played with Marilyn Manson and Katie Langley.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:He did this song.
Speaker A:So I'm curious, your interpretation or what you.
Speaker A:What you think?
Speaker A:So this is.
Speaker A:We're.
Speaker A:So this is a pass or go again, but we're going to do verses against Sammy's song and Dave's song.
Speaker A:So we're going to have to pick the better of the two songs.
Speaker B:This is a video.
Speaker A:There is a video of sorts.
Speaker A:So I will adjust my screen.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:And play this.
Speaker A:There is no video.
Speaker A:Apologies, but there's lyrics.
Speaker C:You can make those working the corner.
Speaker C:When the record deal happened in a week before I found out I was sleeping on the floor with my new best gal In a very, very empty house.
Speaker C:Wrong kind of non conformists that's the case.
Speaker C:And always be in a sleeping bag front of the fireplace.
Speaker C:Your girlfriend and me somewhere over the rainbow bar and grill.
Speaker C:Well, I never knew me a better time and I guess I never will.
Speaker C:Somewhere about the rainbow bar.
Speaker C:Some say they was happy than me.
Speaker C:I'm happy still.
Speaker C:Down at the local canteen.
Speaker C:You know the smell of fresh sawdust when they first throw it on the floor.
Speaker C:You hear a rocking little rhythm from inside the rhythm kitchen.
Speaker C:As you're walking past the canteen door.
Speaker C:120 Degrees the good sometimes spreading like humidity.
Speaker C:Now here's what I found out.
Speaker C:This one belongs in the books or it oughta be.
Speaker C:We're to a shot as we sail out the authorities impart us and it happened frequently in a sleeping bag front of the fireplace.
Speaker C:Your girlfriend and me somewhere over the rainbow bar and Grill.
Speaker C:Well, it's a damn good story and there's still more to tell somewhere about the painful bar and grill.
Speaker C:You say times they ain't got better maybe they still will.
Speaker C:We know all the punchlines we still laugh like hell.
Speaker C:One thing never changes.
Speaker C:Still can't afford the film.
Speaker A:What do you think so far?
Speaker B:Wow.
Speaker A:What a different type of song, right?
Speaker B:What a different type of song.
Speaker B:Yeah, I mean this, this would be.
Speaker B:Yeah, I mean the other one is more of an homage to.
Speaker B:And this one here is more of a tribute to.
Speaker B:Yeah, kind of the same, but different.
Speaker B:Like we're not trying to.
Speaker B:To emulate what he's doing.
Speaker B:This is like a song to say that me and your girlfriend got it on.
Speaker B:No, but it's.
Speaker A:Remembering the good old days.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:What do you mean by your girlfriend and me?
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:You talking about like Valerie or.
Speaker A:I don't know, you know, I don't know what that is, but I don't.
Speaker B:Know what that's all about.
Speaker B:But.
Speaker A:But it isn't.
Speaker A:It isn't like.
Speaker A:So what's your.
Speaker A:Like, it's fun, right?
Speaker B:This is.
Speaker B:This is your typical David Lee Roth.
Speaker B:Like when he.
Speaker B:He did a single thing where it was like.
Speaker B:Like California girl type thing, like his, his big band music.
Speaker B:I mean, it was an acoustic song.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:I don't Know, I. I kind of like this one better anyway.
Speaker B:But they're both totally different.
Speaker B:Yeah, they're both totally different.
Speaker B:So.
Speaker B:I mean, I wouldn't.
Speaker B:I wouldn't put this on my rotation,.
Speaker A:But if it came up, would you.
Speaker A:Would you skip it?
Speaker A:Is this a pass or is this a go?
Speaker B:Well, when I listen to the lyrics, it's almost like I don't really understand how this pertains to Eddie.
Speaker B:I'm trying to correlate the.
Speaker B:The lyrics with it.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:I mean, not having any money, you know, going out, whatever.
Speaker B:I mean, this may have been, you know, when they first met and they first, you know, got together and were playing places and didn't have two pennies to rub together.
Speaker B:That.
Speaker B:That could be saying, like, this is where we came from, this is when we met.
Speaker B:This was our history.
Speaker B:That.
Speaker B:That aspect.
Speaker B:La.
Speaker A:I'm gonna play another song after this, but that's kind of related, but.
Speaker B:Okay, so.
Speaker B:Are you just trying to trick me?
Speaker B:This has nothing to do.
Speaker A:Well, no, no, no, no, no.
Speaker B:I'm.
Speaker B:It depends what you mean by passes in.
Speaker B:I wouldn't.
Speaker B:I wouldn't put it in my playlist.
Speaker A:But you wouldn't skip it.
Speaker A:Would you skip it if it came on?
Speaker B:It's a half and half.
Speaker B:It's one of those.
Speaker B:It depends on what headspace I'm in.
Speaker A:I think that's a go.
Speaker A:Let's go.
Speaker A:I don't think it's.
Speaker A:It's enough.
Speaker A:I. I've actually added this to play.
Speaker A:To playlist for.
Speaker A:For me, this is.
Speaker A:This is a.
Speaker A:Sorry, It's a pass for you.
Speaker B:Sorry.
Speaker A:It's a go for me.
Speaker A:I like this.
Speaker A:I like the melancholy nature of, like, the.
Speaker A:The chords.
Speaker A:Like the.
Speaker A:The choice of chords.
Speaker A:Even if you don't even look at the words, like, the choice of chords.
Speaker A:It's.
Speaker A:It's pleasant, it's melancholic.
Speaker A:It's not really sad.
Speaker A:It's more like reflective, like the chords they're using.
Speaker B:I like the way he does his voice.
Speaker B:I miss his voice.
Speaker B:Sounds good here, too.
Speaker B:Very good.
Speaker B:Like, I miss.
Speaker B:When he was.
Speaker B:You know, he'd sing and then all of a sudden he'd go down.
Speaker B:He'd talk like he was narrating something, and then he'd go back up again.
Speaker B:That I miss.
Speaker B:And when I.
Speaker B:When we would do the Van Halen, Van Hager era, and we talked about it and I said, you know, I really enjoy the.
Speaker B:The Dave era when he was at his peak.
Speaker B:Yeah, it was just a whole different.
Speaker B:It was almost like two different bands.
Speaker A:And this was, this was, well, like way after, like eat him and smile and stuff.
Speaker A:He sounds good here.
Speaker A:He's singing in his range.
Speaker A:He's hitting the high notes very well.
Speaker A:Like there's higher notes here and he's hitting them very well.
Speaker A:He sounds fantastic on here.
Speaker B:There's some Edom and Smile esque type of the way he's singing it.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:So I mean, like I said, it would depend.
Speaker B:I mean, if it came on, depending on what mood I'm in, I might want to listen to it.
Speaker A:Sure.
Speaker B:If I'm into a certain genre that I'm listening to, it's like, well, this is too slow for me right now.
Speaker B:I mean to speed it up.
Speaker B:But on its own it's good.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:So you, you'll give it a go, but it's not like you're not going to chase after it, but you're not gonna probably turn it off.
Speaker B:I would probably listen to this more than I would with, with the other one.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:I'm the same.
Speaker A:I, I, I don't love it, but I don't dislike it at all.
Speaker A:I think it's fine.
Speaker A:Now this brings up.
Speaker A:There's another song that Dave did a long time ago that, That I.
Speaker A:All I kind of felt was.
Speaker B:An.
Speaker A:Homage to those days where he missed the days with.
Speaker A:I think you know, this one just a jiggle.
Speaker A:No, no, no.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker A:Now, to me this feels more like it's not a rest in peace Eddie, but it's.
Speaker A:I miss those days.
Speaker A:And if you like.
Speaker A:And if you look at the words, I'll bring up the words for this too.
Speaker A:Oh, and Dave, Dave's vocal sounds so good.
Speaker A:And Steve, Steve is not copying Eddie here.
Speaker B:No.
Speaker A:At all.
Speaker A:This is still pure Steve Vai y.
Speaker A:But it's, it's so tender.
Speaker A:Isn't that nice?
Speaker B:Yes, very good.
Speaker B:I love it.
Speaker B:Sound like.
Speaker A:This is not a favorite Dave album for a lot of people, but I love this.
Speaker A:Actually, I like this album more than I like Eat him and Smile.
Speaker A:Eat him and Smile.
Speaker A:I like for nostalgia, but this is the album I always go back to.
Speaker B:This is the type of song where you kick back, put the headphones on and just let the music just envelop your body.
Speaker A:Listen to Dave's voice here.
Speaker A:Just got enough rasp in there.
Speaker A:But not too much in the words.
Speaker A:Time.
Speaker C:We were laughing as we reach for the star and we had some.
Speaker A:What a great.
Speaker B:Or even talk to Steve Vai and ask him what he thought about this song and what he thinks it's about.
Speaker B:It meant.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker B:What.
Speaker B:What it was about.
Speaker B:Because I wonder if he.
Speaker B:He's thinking, yeah, Dave was reminiscing, and I just kind of, you know.
Speaker A:Well, I wonder if, like, I wonder, did Dave come with the lyrics first or did Steve come up with the parts first?
Speaker A:Because I.
Speaker A:My impression was Steve came up with the parts, and then it would make Dave feel a certain way, and his lyrics would reflect that.
Speaker A:Can I just want to point out this line?
Speaker A:As we reach for the stars and we had some for what it was worth.
Speaker A:That is poetry.
Speaker A:That's not a. Sammy Hague earlier.
Speaker C:Eric.
Speaker B:That's deep.
Speaker A:That is so cool.
Speaker B:It.
Speaker B:There's.
Speaker A:We had some stars.
Speaker B:It's like minimal words that means so much.
Speaker B:There's so much involved in it.
Speaker A:It's like we captured lightning in a bottle.
Speaker A:We actually had stars.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:For what it was worth, like, we had.
Speaker A:We captured the lightning in a bottle.
Speaker A:But there was so much disharmony in the band, especially around 83, 84 or whatever it was.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:I mean, once.
Speaker B:Once they hit that album, then, yeah, it just went.
Speaker A:But we had stars.
Speaker A:For what it was worth.
Speaker A:It was horrible.
Speaker A:We weren't getting along.
Speaker A:We weren't talking.
Speaker A:We were fighting.
Speaker A:We were fighting, but we had the stars.
Speaker A:So it's almost like we finally attained that pinnacle of perfection in our music.
Speaker B:But I think there's a lot of bands like that.
Speaker B:A lot of bands that have conflict always seem to thrive.
Speaker B:And I'm not sure what.
Speaker B:What.
Speaker B:Why that is, what the formula is.
Speaker B:I mean, shortly after they.
Speaker B:They usually break up, but they usually come out.
Speaker B:It's almost like they bring out the best of each other during the conflict.
Speaker B:I don't know if it's.
Speaker B:Maybe they're trying to outdo each other, so they're trying to push themselves harder.
Speaker B:I don't know if that makes sense at all.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:So let's compare this to the Sammy lyric.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:So I think damn good is a.
Speaker A:Better versus categories.
Speaker A:So here's the lyrics of the Sammy song.
Speaker A:Try not to laugh.
Speaker A:Standing right there in front of me like he'd never been gone over in a corner we wrote this song coming out of a dream trying to hold on to that melody Another dream becomes a reality over in the corner Getting high, high, high Come on.
Speaker A:Thank you for the music.
Speaker A:Music like, wow.
Speaker A:Compare that to Dave's song here.
Speaker A:So I'm gonna read Dave's lyrics here.
Speaker B:You get an hour to write some lyrics.
Speaker B:Okay, well, let's.
Speaker B:Let's throw it all together here.
Speaker A:Okay, so here's Dave's lyrics just for people can't get the visual.
Speaker A:Time rolls on and that's as it should be Here and gone seems to move so quickly.
Speaker A:Man, we were happy in our restless hearts it was heaven right here on earth yeah we were laughing as we reached for the stars and we had some for what it was worth Todd, in a pure versus mode.
Speaker A:What's the better lyric of those two?
Speaker B:Oh, Dave's got the better lyric on this one.
Speaker A:Like by a mile by.
Speaker B:It.
Speaker B:It's.
Speaker B:If you compare them, it's almost like someone who has had experience writing lyrics versus someone who's entered a contest versus.
Speaker A:A six year old lyrics.
Speaker A:Yeah, it's not.
Speaker A:It's not even in the same.
Speaker A:Like, it's comparing apples to oranges like they can't.
Speaker A:Like.
Speaker A:Like, you know, Sammy's been around for a long time.
Speaker A:He's written a lot of songs, but like he's never attained this.
Speaker B:Snap and bone splatting bone.
Speaker A:Can we listen to a little bit more?
Speaker A:Damn good.
Speaker B:Oh yeah.
Speaker A:Okay, let's go.
Speaker C:Those were good times.
Speaker A:Little Middle Eastern influence on the guitar there.
Speaker C:Good times.
Speaker C:Damn good times.
Speaker C:Hey, take a look at this picture.
Speaker C:Can you believe that was you?
Speaker C:And who's that standing there in the corner?
Speaker C:Not me.
Speaker C:All the crazy things we used to do.
Speaker C:Sure.
Speaker C:We was acting like a couple of kids.
Speaker C:Good to remember, you know that it is.
Speaker C:I still feel it like the sun on my skin.
Speaker C:Maybe that's better.
Speaker A:That's making me tear up.
Speaker B:It's like.
Speaker B:It's like when Steve vai like some of the songs that he does on his Passion Warfare Dave has.
Speaker B:He's exuding the same type of mood.
Speaker B:Same.
Speaker B:The same type of.
Speaker A:Exactly.
Speaker B:That's exactly feeling like.
Speaker B:It's just.
Speaker A:He's not countering what Steve's doing.
Speaker A:He's complimenting what Steve's doing and he's not forcing it.
Speaker B:It's just like he's laid back and he's singing it like that's just the way it is and that's the way it was.
Speaker B:And here's the story of what we did.
Speaker B:And he does it in such a way that it.
Speaker B:Yeah, it just.
Speaker B:It's an emotional song actually.
Speaker B:Whereas the other song is totally.
Speaker B:Say it's a totally different animal.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:I'm feeling a lot of stuff right now.
Speaker B:Yeah, it's.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:If.
Speaker B:If he would have came out with this song after Eddie passed, this would have won hands down for sure.
Speaker A:Okay, so if we had to do verses between this and the Sammy Song.
Speaker B:Oh, it's not even a contest.
Speaker B:I don't know what lyrically, musically, Sammy should.
Speaker B:Sammy should sing this one.
Speaker B:The very first.
Speaker A:You know, it's.
Speaker A:It's funny because Steve Vai.
Speaker A:Joe Satriani.
Speaker A:Joe Satriani taught Steve.
Speaker A:I like Steve.
Speaker A:I took guitar lessons from Joe Satriani.
Speaker A:They're so.
Speaker A:They're similar animals in some ways.
Speaker A:Their styles are very, very different.
Speaker A:But Steve never as the.
Speaker A:As the quote, unquote, replacement guitarist for.
Speaker A:For Eddie.
Speaker A:He never tried to be Eddie.
Speaker B:No.
Speaker B:Never tried to emulate him.
Speaker B:He had his own style.
Speaker B:I mean, he.
Speaker B:He came back.
Speaker B:He came from, what, Alcatraz and Frank Zappa and, you know, all these other ones that were just totally different type of music altogether either.
Speaker B:And if you ever heard his flexible album, it's like.
Speaker B:That's just like an alien.
Speaker A:Did you know that in Alcatraz, who the first guitarist was?
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:It's so small.
Speaker A:I had to follow Yngwie.
Speaker A:You know, it's like.
Speaker A:But he didn't try to copy.
Speaker A:No, he doesn't try.
Speaker A:I was like, I can't play like.
Speaker A:Like, I've heard interviews with him.
Speaker A:He did a really good interview with Billy Corgan.
Speaker A:It was like an hour interview with Billy Crawford.
Speaker A:Fantastic.
Speaker A:And he's like.
Speaker A:He never tried to copy.
Speaker A:I can't play like Ingv Monstine.
Speaker A:Why would I even try?
Speaker A:He's amazing.
Speaker A:I can't play like Eddie.
Speaker A:I can't.
Speaker A:Like, he never tried.
Speaker A:But this Sammy song, it's like, well, I'm gonna try to sound like Eddie.
Speaker A:And you.
Speaker B:You don't.
Speaker A:You sound.
Speaker A:You don't even sound like Eddie Light.
Speaker A:You don't sound like Satrian.
Speaker A:You don't.
Speaker A:You don't sound like anybody.
Speaker A:There's no identity to his playing, which is frustrating because Joe Satrian is so talented.
Speaker A:He's so good.
Speaker A:And I feel.
Speaker A:And okay, this.
Speaker A:Do I need to play the rant music here?
Speaker A:Maybe I gotta play the rant music.
Speaker A:Okay, let's play while I'm ranting.
Speaker A:Rant music.
Speaker A:There we go.
Speaker A:Turn it on.
Speaker A:Sorry.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:I forgot where I was going.
Speaker A:You know, he's so good.
Speaker B:He's.
Speaker A:Joe is so good, and he wanted so bad.
Speaker A:I want to be in a band with the singer.
Speaker A:I want to be in it.
Speaker A:I want to write some rock songs, some poppy rock songs.
Speaker A:I want to have some singles on the record.
Speaker A:He wanted so hard to just, you know, play along with, you know, like a singer and be in a band.
Speaker A:He just wanted to be in a band.
Speaker A:Band not like a Joe Satriana, but he wanted to be in a band.
Speaker A:Band.
Speaker A:He tried so hard.
Speaker A:But when Steve got that opportunity, he's like, I'm Steve Vai, man.
Speaker A:I'm gonna be Steve Vai.
Speaker A:I'm gonna be weird and flexible and all this.
Speaker A:Right?
Speaker A:He never, he never once tried.
Speaker B:I mean, even when he played with.
Speaker B:With White Snake.
Speaker A:Oh, he was still Steve Vai.
Speaker B:It was still Steve Vai.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:There's no confusing him for, for who he was.
Speaker A:And Joe.
Speaker A:And Joe doesn't sound like Joe.
Speaker A:Joe doesn't sound like Ed.
Speaker A:It's frustrating.
Speaker A:It makes me angry.
Speaker A:Angry.
Speaker A:Okay, so here's something else.
Speaker A:So did you know that there's other bands that also did some Eddie tributes when Eddie passed away?
Speaker A:No, I. I'm just learning this right now.
Speaker A:So I'm gonna actually play parts of.
Speaker A:I don't know if.
Speaker A:How far I'm gonna get.
Speaker A:So if we're doing a four way competition, okay.
Speaker A:For best Eddie Post Eddie song.
Speaker B:Now is this gonna be in the style of Eddie or is this gonna be totally different?
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:I've never heard this song.
Speaker A:This is the first time I've heard of this song.
Speaker C:Song.
Speaker A:It's by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Speaker A:They have a song called Eddie that was released after Eddie died, apparently to honor Eddie.
Speaker A:So let's feel the carnage.
Speaker B:All right.
Speaker C:Sailing the Sunset Strip I'm a bit of a king Granddaughter take a trail I've been bending the stream.
Speaker A:Got Amazon.
Speaker C:Both my hands Such a delicate touch the simple Amsterdam does that make me.
Speaker A:Oh, horseshit.
Speaker B:This would come after the Sammy one.
Speaker C:Pass.
Speaker C:Pass.
Speaker A:This is horseshit.
Speaker A:This is garbage.
Speaker A:Wow.
Speaker A:What the.
Speaker A:Okay, this is.
Speaker B:Does it get better?
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:Do you want to try?
Speaker B:Just speed it up about halfway through.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Yeah, let's go halfway through.
Speaker A:I don't even know which guitar player this is.
Speaker A:I have no idea.
Speaker A:I can't, I can't, I can't.
Speaker A:This is almost garbage.
Speaker B:It's almost like they regurgitate.
Speaker B:Regurgitated one of their own songs and tried to.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Write some lyrics to put.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:It's just weird.
Speaker A:I would say so.
Speaker A:I don't like the Chili Peppers post Give it Away time.
Speaker A:I. I think they get, they, they.
Speaker A:They get so commercial.
Speaker A:So commercial.
Speaker A:And I can't get past his lisp when he thinks it's really hard to focus.
Speaker A:I can't, I can't.
Speaker A:I. I just can't.
Speaker A:I don't.
Speaker A:I. I don't.
Speaker A:I don't like him as a lyricist.
Speaker A:I don't like him as a singer.
Speaker A:I liked it when he was doing funk.
Speaker A:I don't like this stuff.
Speaker C:I don't.
Speaker A:This new stuff, I. I don't like it at all.
Speaker B:Wow.
Speaker A:That was garbage.
Speaker B:I'm sorry.
Speaker B:The Dream Canteen.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:I. I don't even understand what that means.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:And I don't understand the COVID either.
Speaker B:That it.
Speaker B:It looks just.
Speaker B:It's like someone throwing a bunch of paint against the thing and calling it art.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:It's not good.
Speaker A:Okay, so I'm going to play another one.
Speaker A:So there's one more tribute.
Speaker B:We'll.
Speaker A:We'll.
Speaker A:We'll finish with this last tribute.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:I've got high expectations here.
Speaker A:I'm not going to tell you who it is.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:Or what it is, but I've got very, very high expectations for this one.
Speaker A:Hopefully it's good.
Speaker A:I know you're a fan of the guitar player here.
Speaker A:Let's give it a go and see if you like it.
Speaker B:Rush.
Speaker C:Sam.
Speaker C:There.
Speaker C:Sa.
Speaker B:Started off with Jump.
Speaker A:Wow.
Speaker A:What did you think of that?
Speaker B:Wow.
Speaker B:That was.
Speaker B:That was pretty cool.
Speaker A:It's called For Edward.
Speaker B:I would.
Speaker B:I would rank this one after Damn good, actually.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Yeah, Yeah, I think so.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:You know, me too.
Speaker A:So winner is damn good.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:This is number two.
Speaker A:This is close, though.
Speaker A:This is really.
Speaker A:Actually, I felt emotional listening to it, but I. I know who it is.
Speaker A:This is Nancy Wilson from Heart.
Speaker B:Oh, wow.
Speaker A:It's like.
Speaker A:She's so good.
Speaker B:Whoa.
Speaker B:Is that her ovation?
Speaker A:She's so good.
Speaker A:She's so talented.
Speaker A:People need to talk about her more often.
Speaker A:That was beautiful.
Speaker A:Like, the.
Speaker A:The whole composition of that.
Speaker B:Yes, that was very good.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:That got me, you know.
Speaker A:No words needed.
Speaker B:Nope.
Speaker B:No.
Speaker A:But I'm emotional right now.
Speaker B:Well, the guitar can be.
Speaker B:Can be very emotional, like, if you can really channel into it, like some of the songs just.
Speaker B:Just like this one.
Speaker B:Same.
Speaker B:Same idea.
Speaker A:That was just nice.
Speaker A:So that's called For Edward by Nancy Wilson.
Speaker A:I don't know how or where it was released, but, I mean, she was obviously.
Speaker A:She knew Eddie.
Speaker A:Of course she knew Eddie, you know, and then.
Speaker C:I don't know.
Speaker A:That really got me.
Speaker A:That one really got me.
Speaker A:Get me a little vert left.
Speaker A:Yeah, that was.
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:That was really pretty.
Speaker A:Oh, what was that?
Speaker C:You come show me some guitar chords.
Speaker A:Oh, Nancy Wilson can show me some guitar chords.
Speaker A:That's for sure.
Speaker B:Bubbles talking to Alex Liveson.
Speaker A:Yep.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:Oh, my God.
Speaker A:But I will say, have you Watched.
Speaker B:Any of the footage of the concert for Rush.
Speaker A:I. I've been holding off.
Speaker B:Oh, my God, Todd.
Speaker A:I don't know if I can watch it.
Speaker A:I am so.
Speaker A:I'm.
Speaker A:Look, my kid's playing soccer right now, and I watch her games and I watch her play, and I watch her fucking put her heart into it.
Speaker A:And I'm.
Speaker A:And I'm, like, doing the old dad thing, clearing my throat, and I'm so.
Speaker A:I'm so emotional watching these games, watching my daughter find fucking passion in something.
Speaker A:I don't know if I can.
Speaker A:And I'm having.
Speaker A:I have a hard time watching her games because I'm just, like, so immensely proud.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:So immensely proud.
Speaker A:I don't know if I could watch this Rush thing because it's like, okay, like, I'm almost crying at the games.
Speaker A:I'm gonna watch this Rush thing.
Speaker C:And.
Speaker A:And Rush is obviously very important to both of us.
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:I. I don't know if.
Speaker A:And I've heard reviews of people that have been to some of the shows and.
Speaker A:Wow, so it's that good, eh?
Speaker B:The doctor would be proud.
Speaker B:You know what?
Speaker B:And not to give her.
Speaker B:This might be a spoiler, so someone might want to fast forward.
Speaker B:I saw footage, like, at the very beginning.
Speaker B:They have, like, a screen behind them, right?
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:And they're.
Speaker B:And they're showing some footage and stuff, and it shows.
Speaker B:And Alex and Geddy are dressed up like different characters.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker C:Right.
Speaker A:Okay.
Speaker A:Oh, yeah.
Speaker C:Okay.
Speaker A:When they do that, those skits or.
Speaker B:Whatever did the whole thing.
Speaker B:I won't get into the specific specifics of that, but you watch it, you'll see.
Speaker B:But there's one part, I guess, the.
Speaker B:The.
Speaker B:There's these three kids that are looking.
Speaker B:They're looking for Rush, and they go.
Speaker B:And they talk to one person.
Speaker B:He says, go look here.
Speaker B:And he goes in.
Speaker B:They go down this hallway.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:It's almost like a.
Speaker B:Not a horror movie, but kind of like a. Yeah, I guess.
Speaker B:Kind of like a horror movie type thing.
Speaker B:And then there's different doors, and they go into different doors, and there's different people.
Speaker B:There's different things going on in there.
Speaker B:One of them was, do you remember I love you, man?
Speaker A:Oh, yeah.
Speaker B:And the guy's slapping the bass.
Speaker B:Yep.
Speaker B:And they're playing Rush.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Those two guys were in one of the rooms.
Speaker C:What?
Speaker B:And they're talking to them.
Speaker B:It says, how long we've been here, man?
Speaker B:I think we've been here, like, 26 years or something.
Speaker B:Like.
Speaker B:Like whenever that.
Speaker B:That movie came out.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:It was pretty funny.
Speaker B:They had like, like funny skits like that.
Speaker B:And just before they come on, I guess while the kids went into this one room and I guess Alex and Getty were dressed up like old.
Speaker B:And then they looked up and they could see the kimonos.
Speaker B:Remember they used to wear the kimonos in the 70s.
Speaker B:So they looked at the kimonos or something and then the guy went and opened up the dresser and they said, no, no.
Speaker B:And then all of a sudden came he get the flashbacks and it shows little clips of when they first started.
Speaker B:Oh yeah.
Speaker B:As.
Speaker B:As the time went on.
Speaker B:And then all of a sudden this.
Speaker B:There's a screen in front of them on the stage and it's like blue fire type of thing.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:Just kind of rising up.
Speaker B:And then you see the silhouettes of them back in the day when they had the long hair and like their actual silhouettes with their double neck guitars.
Speaker B:So yeah, Getty's got the double neck bass or he's got the bass guitar, like the double neck.
Speaker B:Alex got the 12 string, 6 string SG.
Speaker B:Double neck.
Speaker B:So it shows their syllabus from back in the 70s.
Speaker B:And then as the screens coming up and then all of a sudden it shows them now and then they start playing.
Speaker B:I can't remember if it was Xanadu or what it was, but I heard they played.
Speaker B:Oh my God.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:And then there's.
Speaker B:There's one video I was watching and it was.
Speaker B:Was, I think pretty much the whole concert just showing Anika Niles playing.
Speaker B:And when you've listened to enough Rush songs and because Neil's got such a certain, you know, where all the fills are, you know, where all the, you know, when he, he has the light touch and he works into it or he gets triplets or he does his roles and the way he does them and especially when he's using the cymbal work.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Oh my God.
Speaker B:And when you're listening and you watching her play the songs, it's like, oh my God.
Speaker B:Yeah, yeah, they.
Speaker B:They picked and.
Speaker B:And I've watched a couple of videos of her playing with like before this, like when she was playing.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:Other stuff.
Speaker B:And it was very progressive.
Speaker B:It's like jazzy almost where the timings are different and it's just like, that's so she kind of fit in well.
Speaker B:Like they did their homework, like when they, when they picked her.
Speaker B:So that was.
Speaker A:Know when to pick.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:I can't wait until the.
Speaker B:I mean, I'll probably still just keep watching the videos, but I Can't wait till there's an official live thing because they had camera people there.
Speaker B:Official camera people.
Speaker B:So.
Speaker B:So I'm sure at some point they're gonna have something released.
Speaker A:Oh, there's no way.
Speaker B:When they do, I'll be.
Speaker B:I'll be buying it for sure.
Speaker A:I've got a 4K player.
Speaker A:There's no way I'm not buying it in 4K.
Speaker B:I have to buy.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:So if, if you get a chance.
Speaker B:I mean, I've got a link of the one.
Speaker A:Yeah, send me the links.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:And it's in.
Speaker B:It's very.
Speaker B:It's the very first.
Speaker B:It was like the debut when they first come out.
Speaker B:I mean even had.
Speaker B:There was a clip of.
Speaker B:Of south park when they had Rush.
Speaker B:They were playing, pretending they were Rush and they had that clip on there too.
Speaker B:Like they took a bunch of stuff.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker A:So like the good homages things, right?
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:And they're very light hearted and you can tell they're like when they say.
Speaker B:When someone says you're Canadian, there's a certain.
Speaker B:I don't know how you want to say it.
Speaker B:Like it's a certain type of person.
Speaker B:It's a whole different thing.
Speaker B:Like even, you know bands like, even when they're.
Speaker B:When they're interacting with each other and when you talk to them.
Speaker B:When they were both interview.
Speaker B:And even I think was it was interviewed by.
Speaker B:Was it Jeff Beatty or bd?
Speaker A:I can't be out of.
Speaker B:Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker B:So.
Speaker B:And you can tell like just by the interview, like the way that they, they interact and they talk.
Speaker B:You can tell they're.
Speaker B:They're like down to earth people.
Speaker B:Like they're not.
Speaker B:Oh yeah.
Speaker B:They don't have a stick up their ass.
Speaker B:Not that other countries have people would stick up their asses, but just.
Speaker B:I'm just saying that.
Speaker A:They're so Canadian.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:They're just so.
Speaker B:But that's what we like them down to earth.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:They never Americanized themselves.
Speaker A:They never changed who they were.
Speaker A:Were two kids from Ontario.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:It's the ego thing.
Speaker B:They're.
Speaker B:They're not egotistical.
Speaker A:We were playing in basements.
Speaker B:It's like, I'm a big rock star, look at me type of thing.
Speaker B:No, these are.
Speaker B:They just play.
Speaker B:Just let the music play.
Speaker B:And.
Speaker B:And that's who we are after actually.
Speaker A:After reading Getty's book.
Speaker B:Like even I read those yet.
Speaker B:Oh.
Speaker A:Even though I didn't have an opinion on Getty, that he was an asshole.
Speaker A:I never had that bad opinion.
Speaker A:Of course.
Speaker A:Ever.
Speaker A:But after reading the Book.
Speaker A:I'm like, you think he's a good guy?
Speaker A:Do you think he's a nice guy?
Speaker B:Right?
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:And then you read the book and you're like, no, he's way more than that.
Speaker A:Like, he's better than I thought he was.
Speaker A:And I thought he was great.
Speaker B:I thought you're gonna say he's a real.
Speaker B:I'm thinking, like, I want to, like,.
Speaker A:Give the guy a hug.
Speaker A:If I ever met him, I'd want to give the guy a hug.
Speaker A:Doug.
Speaker A:Like, his history is very, very interesting.
Speaker A:His writing as a.
Speaker A:Writing his own book by himself.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:Great.
Speaker A:It's.
Speaker A:It's a.
Speaker A:It's a. I want to go by.
Speaker A:I want to get a heart.
Speaker A:Like, I. I bought, like.
Speaker A:I bought it on kindle for, like, 10 bucks or whatever it was.
Speaker A:He's like, I don't know.
Speaker A:Like, he's not a writer.
Speaker A:He's not going to write a good book, you know?
Speaker A:And then I'm like, I read the book.
Speaker A:Like, this is like, one of the best rock but autobiographies.
Speaker A:It might be the best rock autobiography I've ever read.
Speaker B:Wow.
Speaker A:It actually made me cry.
Speaker B:Wow.
Speaker A:I was reading parts of it and, like, I like their music more after reading that book.
Speaker B:Wow.
Speaker A:So it's that good.
Speaker A:I. I wanted to buy a hardcover, like.
Speaker B:Well, with veto.
Speaker B:The, like, the interview they did did.
Speaker B:It was like.
Speaker B:It was nice to hear how they kind of started without having to buy a book type of thing where.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:They go through, like.
Speaker A:Well, then that documentary they have is good too, right?
Speaker B:Oh, which doc?
Speaker B:I probably saw it.
Speaker B:What was it?
Speaker B:Which one was that?
Speaker A:Beyond the Lightest Age.
Speaker A:Did you.
Speaker B:I. I probably saw it.
Speaker A:I have it.
Speaker A:I bought it, like, in, like, a special edition of it.
Speaker A:If you haven't seen it, like, it on Blu Ray, it's.
Speaker A:It's fantastic.
Speaker A:It's.
Speaker A:It's my favorite documentary on any band ever.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:But anyway, sorry.
Speaker A:The Rick Beato thing.
Speaker A:So they kind of went back in the past and.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:And then when they.
Speaker B:When they had their.
Speaker B: I guess: Speaker B:Like, we do it or we don't.
Speaker B:Like, if we.
Speaker B:If it doesn't work out, then, you know, I get to work with my dad or whatever.
Speaker A:Yeah, that was.
Speaker A:That was a massive freaking gambler.
Speaker B:And it went off and it worked.
Speaker B:And then, you know, and anybody who goes to a music store, like a guitarist, for example, and, you know, they had gas and call it gear acquisition or whatever, you know, and you go there and you look at.
Speaker B:You know, I'd love to buy that guitar.
Speaker B:That's my dream guitar right there.
Speaker B:And every time you go there, it's there, and you keep looking at it.
Speaker B:And then it got to it once.
Speaker B:2112, I guess, made it type of thing.
Speaker B:I guess they got an advance or.
Speaker A:Something, and they're able to buy some property.
Speaker B:So they were able to go down and get, you know, a couple marshals and some guitars and stuff.
Speaker B:But, yeah, it was interesting.
Speaker A:It was funny.
Speaker A:They had so much resistance to their music because it was so ahead of its time.
Speaker A:Nobody did that kind of music before.
Speaker B:No, it was a different.
Speaker B:It was a different animal.
Speaker B:For sure.
Speaker B:For sure.
Speaker B:And I don't know how their upbringing really came into that type of songwriting.
Speaker B:Now.
Speaker A:Read the book.
Speaker A:I tell you.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:It really explains a lot of stuff that I wasn't aware of.
Speaker A:It makes me appreciate the music even more.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:And even, like, the original drummer, like, I appreciate him even more now, you.
Speaker B:Know, Even if I didn't.
Speaker B:Even if I did see it, I'd watch it again.
Speaker A:You should.
Speaker A:Well, I can lend it to you, but it's also on prime, too.
Speaker A:I think you could watch it on there, too.
Speaker B:Oh, okay.
Speaker B:Well, if it's on Prime, I should be able to find it.
Speaker A:But, I mean, you got ways to watch stuff.
Speaker A:Yeah, but.
Speaker C:Wow.
Speaker A:Yeah, but we did it, Todd.
Speaker A:We did 5.99.
Speaker B:Well, we was a loaded episode.
Speaker B:And.
Speaker B:And.
Speaker A:And as Dave would say, stuff.
Speaker C:Give me a bottle of anything and.
Speaker A:A glazed donut to go.
Speaker A:To go.
Speaker C:Or.
Speaker B:Or.
Speaker B:Or.
Speaker A:This.
Speaker A:I. I did this quote.
Speaker A:I.
Speaker A:This one I did just for you.
Speaker A:One man, one decision.
Speaker A:One desire.
Speaker A:They found it.
Speaker A:They found the clip.
Speaker A:The desire where it came from.
Speaker A:Did you like that?
Speaker A:Oh, you just muted yourself.
Speaker A:Oh, you just unmuted your.
Speaker A:You muted yourself, Todd.
Speaker A:Wow, this is a great finale.
Speaker A:Can you turn your mute off?
Speaker A:Can you hear me?
Speaker A:You're muted, Todd.
Speaker A:You're muted.
Speaker B:Oh, my God.
Speaker B:Was I muted?
Speaker A:Yeah, the whole time.
Speaker B:That whole time.
Speaker B:Oh, for Christ.
Speaker C:Jesus.
Speaker A:You probably said something like, very poetic.
Speaker B:No, I said that was.
Speaker B:That was Tracy who had brought that up.
Speaker B:Yeah, that.
Speaker B:The desire.
Speaker B:I said.
Speaker B:I said, yeah, that's where I got it from.
Speaker A:So she called.
Speaker B:She called me out.
Speaker B:She found it.
Speaker A:Yeah, she found it.
Speaker A:That's great.
Speaker A:I. I do want to say so, like, in, like, the last several episodes we've done, after I did that big dive into our content to see what we've done over the last, you know, 10 years, Tracy was, like, on the show all the time back in the day.
Speaker A:So it was good that we finally brought her back.
Speaker A:And then she.
Speaker A:From our show, she went and did.
Speaker A:She did a show with Corey.
Speaker A:She did an episode of his mixtapes from Hell where they talk about Cinderella.
Speaker A:Great, great episode.
Speaker A:So we, you know, going back to.
Speaker A:Going back to the well for some old things.
Speaker A:We did a pass or go and a versus today.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker A:We didn't do an incorrect headlines.
Speaker A:Well, I think we'll.
Speaker A:I have a bunch of those saved up.
Speaker A:We can do those for our 600th episode.
Speaker A:But I don't know, man.
Speaker A:This is.
Speaker A:This has been a ride and I'm still having fun.
Speaker A:If hopefully you're still having fun and you're muted again.
Speaker B:What the hell?
Speaker A:What are you doing there, man?
Speaker A:The heck?
Speaker A:Why do you keep muting yourself?
Speaker A:There you are.
Speaker B:My zoom keeps dropping power for some odd reason.
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:All right, well, let's cap it off there.
Speaker B:Alrighty.
Speaker A:So we'll be back for episode 600.
Speaker A:I'm not sure if we can record next week or not, but Tuesday seems to be my day to do it.
Speaker C:It.
Speaker A:If you're free on Tuesday.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:I don't want to bring any guests on yet.
Speaker A:We can go back to guests and after we finish 600, we got to get 600 out of the way and then we can go back.
Speaker A:We got some episode suggestions.
Speaker A:There's people that want to come on and hang out with us, but I wanted to make sure these 5.99 and 600 was just you and I going back to the old formula.
Speaker B:Just you and.
Speaker A:But hopefully we can finish those clips up.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker A:Like I said, off the air.
Speaker A:I sent you a clip.
Speaker A:I don't know if you can do anything with it.
Speaker A:Todd, I sent you the instrumental.
Speaker A:If you can do anything with it and create something off of that.
Speaker A:I have something planned for one Kevin Brown teasing it here, but it's.
Speaker A:It might lyrically and vocally speaking, I think is going to be the best thing I've ever done.
Speaker A:Better than anything off dome.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:But I. I created a.
Speaker A:An epic song about Mr. Brown.
Speaker A:Mr. Brown.
Speaker A:Mr. Brown, please let me down.
Speaker B:Yeah, cool.
Speaker C:Cool.
Speaker A:Anyway, Sayanara.
Speaker A:Oh, we gotta thank the patrons before we leave.
Speaker A:See, we already forgot that part.
Speaker A:So Patreons, we have a new one.
Speaker A:So we're gonna go through the list.
Speaker B:We have tier one, tier two, tier three.
Speaker B:And was there another tier?
Speaker A:No, no.
Speaker A:Well, there's tier four.
Speaker A:The.
Speaker A:The that those knuckleheads from.
Speaker A:From Metal Shop came up with like a 94 tier or something.
Speaker C:Wow.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker A:I don't know.
Speaker A:You get to, you get to make song suggestions for their show.
Speaker A:So they're, they're trying to, they're trying to raise revenue for this show, but I think so, but I can't remember what is 94?
Speaker A:Something like that.
Speaker A:But anyway, so we got three tiers.
Speaker A:The first tier gets you early access to everything.
Speaker A:All the episodes show up on Patreon first and then they eventually come out on Monday releases for the regular part of the show.
Speaker A:When you get those on tier one, which is the five dollar tier.
Speaker A:Right, Todd?
Speaker A:I don't have the numbers in front.
Speaker B:Of me, but yeah, certified geek is $5 a month.
Speaker A:And what's the $10 one give us?
Speaker B:True Geek is $10 a month.
Speaker A:And that's the one where you can make suggestions.
Speaker A:You can make Pass or Go suggestions.
Speaker A:You can make wheel of topic suggestions, I believe.
Speaker B:Exclusive access to the Discord server, behind the scenes content and bloopers.
Speaker A:If you're on the Discord server, you get extra content on our Patreon, but you also get to be on the Discord on the Dit Chord server, as they say.
Speaker A:And you can make.
Speaker A:Yeah, and you can make suggestions on Pass or go.
Speaker A:If you want to hear a song.
Speaker A:You want Todd and I to talk about a song, but also suggestions to add to the Wheelo Spite, which is our wheel of topics.
Speaker A:If you want to add stuff on the wheel of topics, you can do so in our Dit Chord server.
Speaker B:Cool.
Speaker A:And then the.
Speaker A:What's the other tier give us?
Speaker A:I can't remember.
Speaker B:Supreme geek, which is 20amonth.
Speaker B:You get everything in tier one and two.
Speaker B:Personal video message from the hosts recorded just for you when you join.
Speaker B:Name handle featured on show social media as a top supporter.
Speaker A:Oh yes, that one's pretty cool.
Speaker A:Oh yeah, here we go.
Speaker A:I've got it.
Speaker A:So Supreme Geek, $20 a month.
Speaker A:You are the pinnacle, the apex, the Supreme Geek.
Speaker A:You get everything from the lower tiers, but when you join at this level, you we will personally record a video message just for you.
